Thank you Martin Sorrell
The genesis of simply-communicate is something of an accident. I (Marc Wright - that’s me on the left, with Ella Magal our Operations Manager) had sold my communications agency MCA Live to Martin Sorrell’s behemoth WPP in 2001. 3 years later and I was ready to move on so I left his advertising and marketing group to set up another comms agency.
Except, I couldn’t.
A non-compete clause meant that I could not do what I was used to doing for a living for at least 2 years. I had taken the money so fair dos - and besides I had been doing conventional internal comms for 20 years so it was time for a change.
I noticed that the IC community did not have much of a magazine back in those days, so with the arrogance that comes from ignorance I decided to become a publisher (albeit an online one). I went to the States to learn from Mark Ragan how such an enterprise might work and then came back to the UK to set up simply-communicate.
