Did you know? Less than 10% of RIBA members vote for their new president.

Putting Architects First.

In episode 37 of the Futurebuild Podcast, host Martin Hurn sits down with Duncan Baker-Brown, founder of BakerBrown Studio and RIBA president candidate, for a candid conversation about the challenges facing architects today and the opportunities that lie ahead.

In this episode:

What Duncan hopes to change if elected RIBA President.
Why climate literacy must become a core professional skill.
The future of architectural education and training.
The opportunities created by retrofit, circular economy and low-carbon design.

This isn't a manifesto reading. It's an honest discussion about the realities of practice, the future of the profession and the role architects can play in creating a more resilient built environment.

Architecture is at a turning point.

Three days. One word.

We've been a little quiet on socials recently, so we thought that we'd share some words, or rather one word, from members of our community to sum up their experiences at Futurebuild 2026.

The next year promises to be a busy year, full of opportunities for the whole built environment to network and connect to create sustainable outcomes.

Stay tuned for a host of exciting announcements, as we approach the next 12 months with a renewed energy and optimisim.

For now, thanks to Barbour ABI, Saint-Gobain, Qvantum UK, 7 Steel UK, Quiet Mark, Dimplex UK, Anzen, ZapCarbon, RISE, Urban Cooling Ltd, Evinox, The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Build with H**p, The Carbon Literacy Project, SYNLawn, and everyone else who has connected with us so far this year.

What a memorable three days, last week at Futurebuild 2026 👏

This year’s event at ExCeL delivered one of the most vibrant and connected gatherings the built environment industry has seen, with overall visitor numbers across Futurebuild, UK Construction Week and the Stone & Surfaces Show doubling compared to last year.

The co-location of the three events transformed into a true built environment super event, with packed theatres, busy exhibition halls and valuable conversations happening throughout all three days. The feedback from exhibitors, speakers and visitors has been fantastic with many highlighting the quality of collaboration, innovation and cross-sector connection across the show floor.

The Main Conference and National Retrofit Conference theatres were packed with insight, featuring keynote addresses from former MP the Rt Hon Chris Skidmore OBE and London’s Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy, Mete Coban MBE. Sir James Cleverly MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, also appeared on stage at UK Construction Week on the final day. Alongside these sessions, attendees had access to 250 hours of CPD content delivered across 13 stages.

A big congratulations as well to Madaster, winner of this year’s Big Innovation Pitch, for showcasing how smarter material reuse and circular thinking can support a more sustainable built environment.

One of the most inspiring moments for us was the closing discussion led by young professionals focused on what the industry could - and should look like by 2030 and beyond. A strong reminder of the importance of giving the next generation a voice in shaping the future.

Thank you to everyone who attended, exhibited, spoke and supported the event.
