Hi everyone,
As some of you know a few weeks ago we did a 10 minute scratch performance of our work so far on 'The Cruel Mother', at the Battersea Arts Centre, and had really positive and constructive feedback from our audience. That 10 minutes was made by meeting once or twice a week for a couple of hours, for about 6 weeks. The process of performing a work-in-progress and having feedback was incredibly useful. What we have now planned for is an intensive week of research and development in July, where we can workshop ideas with a slightly bigger group of actors, which will hopefully culminate in another scratch style performance in our rehearsal space.
At the moment we know how difficult it is for actors (or indeed anyone) to commit to projects when there is no pay offered. So in order to be able to pay a group of actors and creatives a [relatively modest] daily fee to be part of the development process, we have launched a Kickstarter campaign, with the hope that we'll be able to raise enough to be in a position to actually ask people to work with us, and have their commitment for the week.
'The Cruel Mother' is an incredible novel about memories, motherhood and madness. It is part autobiography, part family history, part historical account. It is providing us with very rich and challenging source material, which we want to do justice.
For the research and development week we're aiming to raise £1671 by July 18th. It would be great if you could have a look at our Kickstarter page, watch the short video that we've put together, and if you feel inspired it would be wonderful to have your support.

We would also be really grateful if you could circulate this to anyone else you know who might be interested in supporting the work.
'The Cruel Mother' is a play in development based on the novel by Siân Busby, and directed by Simon Ryninks.
