RIBA Venues is the conference and events arm of the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) based at 66 Portland Place, Marylebone, London. RIBA Venues’ event facilities, including a tiered auditorium, are located at the heart of the capital and can host meetings, conferences, receptions and dinners for up to 400 delegates. The venue is set in an architecturally significant construction built

in 1934 following an intense competition among leading architects. The open design incorporates floor-to-ceiling windows and views over London, creating an oasis of light and space.

Our wonderful catering team headed back to 66 Portland Place today to clear the store cupboards and freezers of food (whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines of course!).

These items were donated to Divine Rescue Community Food Bank where volunteers are working around the clock to ensure people and families in need are being supported with food, water, warm clothes, sleeping bags, toiletries and hand sanitizers.

Before lockdown we created a series of images called using old photos from the RIBA archives; we lined the photos up in their original setting to create a magical glimpse into the past.

This shot shows architects John Austin-Smith and Andrew Derbyshire during a visit to 66 Portland Place in 1963.

Andrew Derbyshire was the father of our previous president, Ben Derbyshire of .

Our entrance hall is a beautiful example of art deco design featuring four grand marble pillars, a sweeping marble staircase and stunning etched glass panels.

Our venue may be closed for now but we, like many other people, have established our working from home rhythm and are continuing to support clients as much as possible.

In light of government advice, it is with a heavy heart we have decided to close the RIBA to the public until further notice.
