🌀 THE VISUAL LANGUAGE OF SPIRAL TRIBE 🌀

Feenix13 was one of the founding members of Spiral Tribe and a central force behind the organisation, visual identity, design and transformation of their event spaces.

When the crew travelled across Europe, it was Feenix 13 who coined the word “Teknival”, a term that would become inseparable from the underground movement developing across the continent 🏴‍☠️

On Saturday 19 September, Feenix 13 will shape the visual atmosphere of the SP23 night in real time, transforming the warehouse through imagery, symbols and movement.

More than thirty years ago, SP23 transformed warehouses, fields and abandoned spaces into temporary communities built around sound, freedom and participation.

From 16–19 September, this history comes together at REinsTate - The Tate Institute for the first-ever Spiral Tribe Exhibition in London 🌀

Rare archives, artwork and photography come together with talks, film, creative activities and music, shaped by members of the original crew and contributions from artists, filmmakers and collectives connected to its wider cultural history.

Each day explores a different side of the movement before the programme moves to DISTILLERY N17 for the closing rave on Saturday night 🏴‍☠️

Swipe through the carousel to explore the daily programme.

Exhibition entry is free, but a ticket is required via Resident Advisor. Those able to contribute can select an optional supporter ticket, helping cover the programme’s costs and support the independent organisations making it possible.

LIVE. IMPROVISED. NEVER THE SAME TWICE.

69db returns to London for the closing night of the Spiral Tribe Exhibition and Rave 🌀

After experiencing illegal acid house parties in the 1980s, he busked between London, Paris and Berlin to fund his first experiments in electronic music.

A member of Spiral Tribe since 1991 and co-founder of the original SP23 studio, 69db helped take electronic music beyond conventional DJing through fully improvised live performance.

On Saturday 19 September, 69db brings that same unpredictable live energy back to Distillery N.17 🏴‍☠️

BEATS. BLEEPS. BASSLINES. CHEEKY RAPS.

Bad Girlz bring together IxIndamix’s slamming electronic rhythms and analogue mischief with Simone Sim Simmer’s soulful melodies, irreverent lyrics and unmistakable energy!

Two original members of the Spiral Tribe SP23 story. Two raving mothers with attitude. One explosive live performance 🌀

Sim Simmer was there at the very first Spiral Tribe party. When the police confiscated the generator, she organised another one in the middle of the night…and the party continued… 🏴‍☠️

Twenty years later, their signature blend of rave energy, heavy electronics, humour and attitude continues to move dancefloors of Boomtown, Glastonbury Festival and across the whole Europe.

A PEN. BLACK INK. A LOGARITHMIC SPIRAL.

After leaving his job in Reading, Mark Angelo Harrison Mark Angelo moved to London, where he immersed himself in a world of DJs, artists and musicians.

While working at a print studio, he discovered the logarithmic spiral of an ammonite… a symbol of life, evolution and chaos. The next day, he quit his job and began a new project.

🌀 He called it Spiral Tribe🌀

Today, Mark is a writer, photographer and artist whose visual work remains inseparable from the history and identity of the movement.

On Friday 18 September, he brings Space Pirates Screen Printing to the Spiral Tribe Exhibition. Bring your own T-shirt and print it with an original Space Pirates design 🏴‍☠️

Before algorithms. Before mainstream festivals.
There were warehouses, sound systems, DIY networks and a movement that changed UK and European underground culture forever.

After travelling across Europe, Unmasked presents the Spiral Tribe Exhibition - - for the very first time in London, in the city where their story left one of its deepest marks throughout the 1990s and far beyond.

4 days of cultural programme bringing together history, music, ideas and collective memory with Spiral Tribe crew, rooted in the free party ethos of resistance, DIY spirit and creative autonomy 🌀

A rare exploration through archives, images, visual language and the countercultural legacy of one of the most influential movements of recent decades.

The exhibition will be free and accessible throughout the programme.
Exclusive panel talks, workshops, screenings, interviews and live sessions featuring Spiral Tribe crew and special partners will be announced over the coming months.

Saturday night - SP23 rave announcement and full line-up coming very soon! 🏴‍☠️

This September, London reconnects with a story that helped shape underground counterculture far beyond the dancefloor.
From another era. Still resonating today. For those who were there. For those discovering it for the first time.
