Happy World Environment Day from all of us at Bexley Eco & Wellness Fest! 🌿

This year's theme is a reminder that our planet needs us but it also needs us to look after each other. Because sustainability isn't just about recycling and reusable cups. It's about the kind of community we build.

That's what we try to do every year: bring people together around practical ideas, good conversation, and a shared belief that Bexley can lead the way.

Our next festival is coming in 2026. But the community… that's happening right now.
How are you marking World Environment Day this year? 🌱

Every year on 5th June, people come together for World Environment Day, a global initiative led by the United Nations. It is to encourage awareness and action toward protecting our planet.

Summer is finally here and we're kicking it off with something special!

On Saturday 7 June, we're partnering with Blue Patch and Bell House for a Festival of Retrofit, a family-friendly day of talks, workshops, activities, and stalls all about making your home cleaner, greener, and cheaper to run.

Whether you're curious about insulation, energy bills, or just want to explore what's possible, this is the perfect place to start. Bring the kids, bring your questions, bring your neighbours.

And this is just the beginning! Our Summer of DIY runs all the way through July, with workshops on greening your roofs and lofts, repointing, solar power, and more. Free and low-cost spaces available — including fully subsidised spots for those who qualify as Energy Champions.

Come along on the 7th and find out what the rest of the summer has in store!

A day of creative repair workshops, talks and stalls for healthy homes and neighbourhoods!

Kids who learn about sustainability don't just care about the planet, they actually do something about it too.
Bexley Eco Fest runs some brilliant programmes in local schools. Think wormeries, litter picks, musical instruments made from waste materials, and scavenger hunts themed around recycling and ocean plastics. There's even Plastic Pioneers, a collaboration with TK Maxx and Homesense that helps schools tackle single-use plastics together.

These aren't just fun activities (though they really are fun). They build habits, teamwork skills, and a genuine sense of responsibility that sticks.

If your school isn't involved yet, now's the time to change that. And if your kids have taken part, we'd love to hear what they got up to! 🌱

Getting kids interested in sustainability has plenty of benefits – they learn about taking care of our planet, develop teamwork skills, and have fun while doing it!

This World Environment Day, we're thinking about something simple: the small things add up.

A reusable bag. A meal made from leftovers. A jumper from a charity shop instead of something new. None of it is perfect. All of it matters.

Here in Bexley, we've got a community that's already doing this through the Re-users upcycling group, our Schools Green Awards, and thousands of people who show up every day because they care.
You don't have to overhaul your life. Just pick one thing this week and do it.

What's your one thing going to be? Drop it in the comments.

Sustainability is easier when you don't have to figure it out alone.
That's why we love the partnerships that make up the Bexley Eco community. Families can get a free £50 voucher towards reusable nappies through Real Nappies for London. Local sewing and repair workshops with Nicola Corrigan help you extend the life of your clothes instead of binning them. School groups can visit Cory's Energy from Waste site in Belvedere to see exactly what happens to their rubbish and how it becomes electricity.

From nappies to needlework to hands-on site visits, these partnerships make greener living practical and accessible for everyone in Bexley.

Which of these would you love to get involved with? Let us know!

For us at Cory, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s our mission. Through partnerships with inspiring local organisations, we’re helping the Bexley community take steps towards a more eco-conscious lifestyle. Whether it’s reducing waste, reusing resources, or learning valuable life ski...

Earth Day was last month, and this year's theme was "Our Power, Our Planet." It’s a reminder that environmental progress doesn't depend on any one government or policy. It depends on us. The conversation you have with a neighbour. The habit you pass on to your kids. The community event you actually show up to.

Imperfect collective action beats eco-perfectionism every time. Have you been inspired to start any new sustainable habits this year? Tell us below.

Earth Day turns 56 years old on April 22nd this year. It started in 1970 when 20 million Americans took to the streets in what became the spark for today’s global environmental movement. Today, it reaches one billion people across 193 countries. The scale is huge, but what does it really mean for ...

Bexley’s Repair Cafes in Sidcup and Thamesmead are community spaces where volunteers help fix everyday items at no charge. Whether it’s a toaster that won’t heat up, clothes that need mending or a lamp that’s gone dim, there’s someone ready to help and you might even pick up a few skills along the way. It’s practical, social and good for the planet.

Last chance! ⏰ The deadline to apply for Cory's free Reuse & Refurbishment course is tomorrow — Friday 15 May.

If you've been thinking about it, now's the moment. It's four days of hands-on learning in June, completely free, with a proper qualification at the end.

All they ask in return is that you give two afternoons to support Bexley Repair Café this year — which honestly sounds like a pretty good deal for everyone in the community.

To apply, email [email protected] and share a little about why this course would be useful to you or the local area.

Know someone who'd be perfect for this? Tag them below — you might just change their year. 🌱
