The end of a fab tour of rarely-heard music from 1650’s Venice (including some not performed since the 17th century!) with our perfect copy of a Venetian opera band of the period. Next stop: the launch of the album! A huge thank you to everyone who supported it, including , and .j.white who captured our London concert so beautifully.

TONIGHT: immerse yourself in the golden age of venetian opera with Musica Antica Rotherhithe.

Hear cantatas and extracts from operas brought to life by mezzo Camilla Seale and countertenor Tristram Cooke in an enchanting evening of early music. Using period instruments such as harpsichord and pentagonal virginal, this unique ensemble will transport you to the mid 17th century with a band that matches a Venetian theatre band of the time as closely as possible.

Musica Antica Rotherhithe was founded by Oliver Doyle and Jessica Eucker in 2016 with the aim of presenting affordable, accessible concerts of rarely heard music from the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Where modern scores for these works do not exist, Musica Antica create performing editions complete with translations and critical notes, which are made freely available online thanks to the Cavalli Charity. This concert has been made possible by the Continuo Foundation.

The first newsletter of 2026 went out on Friday/Saturday and here it is in case you are not on the mailing list. It announces our first gig of the year, that promises to be a very special one.

Friends, family and fellow musicians of dear Pablo Dominguez, who performed seven times in our series, and who died a year ago, will be coming to perform a special concert on Friday 27th February.

Pablo played all sorts of music, on guitar and percussion, and that included chamber music, with guitarist Maria Camahort's Iberian Colours ensemble. They are coming (this is all really Maria's initiative!) and Demi Garcia Sabat, also a familiar face to Tuned In Londoners, will be taking on the role of percussionist. Excitingly their set will include a PREMIERE of a new piece Maria has written for Pablo.

Long-established and much acclaimed singer songwriter, poet, composer and neighbour of Pablo, JAVIER RUIBAL, will also be travelling specially to perform for us, bringing us the rhythms and essence of the region that is their home: Puerto de Santa Maria, near Cadiz.

Some of you will know, though many won't, for Pablo was a humble chap, that his father is the world renowned jazz pianist, Chano Dominguez. He is due to be on stage at the Barbican in April but doesn't want to miss this celebration of the life of Pablo: we are immensely thrilled that he will also be putting in a guest appearance.

We will be at City Hope London in Bermondsey. It is the last venue that Pablo played in, with the LEO POWER. Trio.

We are excited to announce that the Instituto Cervantes is supporting us.

Read all our news, with more info about this gig, as well as a look back at 2025, and a couple of other gig recommendations, one local to us (Musica Antica Rotherhithe), the other a band that is very important to us (She'koyokh). NB: This is our first time sending news via the Email Octopus platform.

Tell your friends and get your tickets! See you there!! And if you are not free, please consider supporting the event anyway: we are raising funds for Pablo's wife and young children.

A busy end to our 9th year over the past week: a fantastic concert of self-accompanied 16th and 17th century Italian song masterminded by , followed by recording sessions for our first album! Next year you’ll be able to hear scenes from Venetian operas premiered between 1650 and 1660 (many of which haven’t been heard in 370 years) performed by .seale and , and accompanied by a band reconstructed using surviving payment records: two violins, a bass violin, harpsichord, pentagonal virginal and up to three theorbos. We can’t wait to share it with you! |

For our final concert of the year we’re joined by Lucine Musaelian and Emma-Lisa Roux for a show which Lucine first prepared for the Scola Cantorum in Basel, but which has gone unperformed since it was cancelled by the pandemic! Taking music by Giaches De Wert, Luca Marenzio and Luzzasco Luzzaschi, we’ll be retelling the life of the musician, poet and courtier Tarquinia Molza, with Lucine, Emma-Lisa and singing and accompanying themselves on the viol, lute and theorbo. Tickets are £2-£10 as ever! |

How many lutes does it take to recreate a party in Venice in 1514? At least 3, it turns out! Beautiful self-accompanied singing by our very own Lucia Trivixan , division viol by , CRAZY diminutions after Sylvestro Ganassi by , intabulations of songs for lute by and for keyboard by Oliver Doyle, and lovely singing by and . One final concert to come this year, featuring our very own Concerto Delle Donne of , and , and then we’re back to the 17th Century for work on our first album - rarely-heard Venetian cantatas and arias sung by .seale, , and accompanied by a band matching exactly what the impresario Marco Faustini recorded in his financial records in the 1650’s. We’re back to early 16th century Venice for our next concert! 511 years ago, the diarist Marin Sanudo wrote that Venice’s musicians were in mourning for the courtesan Lucia Trivixan, who was an excellent singer and famous for the musical parties she hosted at her home in Cannaregio. We’ll be recreating one of these parties, with gorgeous music by Josquin, Tinctoris, Cara and Tromboncino - sacred and downright filthy - and playing Lucia herself, singing and playing the lute. We’ll also have a lovely clavicymbalum to hand for late-fifteenth century keyboard music - it’s one of only a handful in existence! Tickets £2-£10 as ever, with a bar open from 7pm. Link in bio! |

We’re over the moon to be one of the 28 recipients of a grant today! Thanks to them, we’ll be touring a programme of music - much of which hasn’t been heard since the 1650’s - written during the golden age of Venetian opera by Pietro Antonio Ziani, Francesco Lucio, Francesco Cavalli and Barbara Strozzi, to , , and in February 2026. Thanks to a host of friends and foundations, we’ll be recording the programme in December (our first album!), but more on that in the coming months. Keep an eye on today for details of all the fantastic upcoming projects which they’ve made possible across the UK! |

Our next concert’s coming up in just over two weeks - madrigals and lute songs from 16th and early 17th century Italy by Striggio, Casulana, Leonora Orsini, Marenzio and Monteverdi, and the next in our series of Banchieri’s comedies, La Saviezza Giovanile. Beautiful music, and words you wouldn’t normally see beamed onto the wall of a church. Unless you’ve been to one of our concerts over the past two years, in which case you probably know what to expect. Tickets £2-£10 as ever, with a bar open from 7pm! |
