📣🇱🇹We’re excited to announce the 2nd film from Lithuania at this year’s LBFF: Hunger Strike Breakfast.

In the early ‘90s, Lithuanian TV star Daiva loses her job as TV studios are taken over by Russian soldiers. Unable to chase the armed men away, Daiva decides to declare a hunger strike in a trailer facing the occupied TV station. Only a handful of people join, and the soldiers cannot care less. Merely a day into the strike, reclaiming the TV already seems like a lost fight. As hunger grows, the strikers realise what they are truly starving for - confession and human warmth.

The film is inspired by real events. It premiered at the Tallinn Black Nights FF (in competition), has seen success across the festival circuit, and was one of the highlights at this year’s Lithuanian Film Awards.

London, get ready for Kingpins! 🇱🇻We’re excited to announce the 2nd feature film from Latvia - Kingpins / Visiem Vajag Naudu | Kingpins 🤑🎳 Kingpins is a punk-spirited heist story about ambition, self-worth, and the risks we take to be seen.

When struggling actress Paula and her boyfriend Kaspars fall deep into debt, she hatches a plan to rob the bowling alley where she works. But on the night of the heist, nothing goes to plan - and Paula soon finds herself the prime suspect in a witch hunt led by her paranoid boss.

The film strikes (see what we did there;) Latvian cinemas next month before embarking on an international tour.

🇱🇹📣Announcing the first selection from Lithuania! How To Divorce During The War Film "How to Divorce During the War" will screen in London this November.

Vilnius 2022. High-flying executive Marija chooses the worst possible moment for an honest conversation with her husband Vytas about divorcing - just one day before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine goes into full scale. Now the couple must navigate the process of separation as it collides with hosting a Ukrainian refugee family and mid-life crisis.

The film had its international premiere at the The Sundance Institute festival and is Lithuania’s official submission for the 2027 Oscars.

🇱🇻📣We’re happy to confirm the first film from Latvia at LBFF 2026 - Ulya / Filma Uļa 🏀

The film, directed by Viesturs Kairišs, premiered at Festival de Cannes this year and is inspired by the true story of the legendary Latvian basketball player Uljana Semjonova, winner of two Olympic Gold medals, a number of championships from 1968–1989, and an inaugural member of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

In 1964, Ulya, an Old Believer teenage girl nearing two meters tall, grows up on a faraway country farm. Her unusual height troubles her family, who wonder if there’s a place for her in the world. When her class photo reaches basketball coaches, Ulya is whisked to Riga to join a famous basketball team. Struggling with her height and identity, she trains hard, but realises basketball can’t fulfil her dream of a normal life. After fleeing back home, Ulya discovers both village life and basketball see her only for her towering height. Accepting herself, she faces a choice: hide or aim to be the best basketball player in the world.

🇪🇪📣We’re excited to announce our first film selection for this year’s festival, Noortefilm “Morten” from Estonia.

Morten is a coming-of-age story about an introverted 15-yo boy living with his unemployed uncle in a decaying farmhouse while his mother works abroad to secure a better future. Isolated from his classmates, Morten retreats into the world he captures with his inherited 35mm film camera, his only tool for understanding and navigating the life around him. Morten’s world shifts when two very different girls enter his life...

The film premiered at this year’s Karlovy Vary IFF and opens in Estonian cinemas this week.

🇪🇪🇱🇻🇱🇹The LBFF’26 poster is here!

Previously, we’ve used the themes of the Baltic sea, amber, and northern lights as inspiration for each edition’s look and feel. This year, it’s the oak tree which is the national tree of all three Baltic countries with deep cultural meaning across all three nations.

The festival runs from 13 to 21 November in two Central London cinemas Regent Street Cinema and 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐆𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐄𝐍 𝐂𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐌𝐀 🍿
