Everyone in this story is simply brilliant.

Our best friend fell 200ft to his death on a mountain but wouldn't want us to stop hiking

Two men who watched best friend Jack Carne fall to his death off Glyder Fawr won't stop adventuring.

A HEARTFELT THANK YOU to those Community Hosts, Volunteers, Supporters and Friends who were able to persuade over 4000 people to come and watch the London Mountain Film Festival in their local parish hall, micro brewery, community cinema or whatever! You are the best ❤️

We continue to grow rapidly, from a lockdown launch on your couch to a globally distributed film festival, tapping in to the power of the London brand we source films from everywhere and send them back out to wherever you want to show them.

The best thing is that you get to pick the films you think your community will like the most, you get to enhance your event in whichever ways you want, and you get to allocate your profits to the non-profit project of your choice.

Passes will go on sale in November with online previewing for hosts from January 1st 2027.

One of many special moments from last night’s Penrith screening of UNDERLAND directed by Rob Petit and based on the book by Robert Macfarlane.

Here, the author is sharing a talisman he was gifted for his Underland travels, a beautiful owl fashioned from a piece of whale bone.

The film is dizzying, expansive and perfectly balanced in how it explores the different uses humans have found for the spaces beneath our feet, how time is compressed when in contact with the marks of our ancestors, and how these diverse spaces are nevertheless interconnected within our restless earth.

Thanks to a brilliant audience it was one of the best post-film sessions we have had the privilege to host. You can just about make us out in the far corner of the stage!

🖐️ ONLY A HANDFUL of tickets left for UNDERLAND 7pm Wednesday 25th March

These hands belong to Fatima, casting their shadows upon handprints left deep in the bowels of Mexico by her Mayan ancestors. She is connecting with them across the void.

Underland is a film rich in imagery, lyrical, and overflowing with ideas so big that only a screen the size of the one at Rheged can do them justice.

We can promise you a mind-expanding evening where dark matter, urban exploration and ancient burial unite in a film that will change how you feel about the world beneath and beyond.

Q&A with author and director will follow.

Thanks to for choosing us for their Northern Premiere.

ANNOUNCING 🏆 PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD

Winter Kooks

Who would have thought Alberta’s first ever river surfing film would win the hearts of our audience and nab the popular vote?

Two land locked friends battling against winter depression take to the glacier fed rivers of Alberta for adrenaline, connection and simply to feel ALIVE in an unlikely surf spot!

In the end they prove that extreme sport can tear down mental health barriers, build up strong friendships and bring warmth to the world - including within our community here.

What a wonderful story to share. Congratulations to co-directors and for delivering such an uplifting film.

ANNOUNCING 🏆 FESTIVAL WILDCARD AWARD

We Are All Artists

This award has traditionally gone to a film with an extraordinary protagonist that has particularly inspired, delighted or surprised us. This year that person is beach artist

chose to shoot the film in black and white which adds a stunning clarity to the aerial shots of Billy Bartlett’s beautiful symmetrical large scale designs etched into the sands of Cornwall.

These works are an intriguing example of how human beings can interact with nature. As with any adventure, they require planning, dedication, skill.. they are beautiful while they last but the next day, gone.

We Are All Artists was much loved by our communities who screened it. A leftfield choice, a wildcard. Wonderful.
