Most beginners skip straight past it - but once you know how to read it, you'll make much better choices at the yarn shop. Swipe through to see what to look for! ๐
๐งถ ๐๐ถ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ - affects softness, washability and how the yarn feels on the hook. Acrylic is easy care and usually cheaper, cotton is great for warm weather or for keeping the shape (bags, etc), wool is warm but may need hand washing and it can create knots while you're working, harder to un-do.
โ๏ธ ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ป ๐๐ฒ๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ - always match the weight written in the pattern you're following. If you use a different weight, your finished piece won't come out the right size.
๐ ๐ ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ด๐ฒ - always check metres not just grams. Two balls can look identical but one can have significantly more yarn than the other.
๐ชก ๐ง๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป/๐ด๐ฎ๐๐ด๐ฒ - this tells you the recommended hook size and how many stitches you should get per 10cm. Great starting point for your swatch.
๐จ ๐๐๐ฒ ๐น๐ผ๐ - colour number and dye lot number are two different things! Always match the dye lot number when buying multiple balls or you'll spot the difference in your finished piece.
