Tottenham Announce Mourinho as New Coach

Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Jose Mourinho as the club's new head coach on a three-year contract until the end of the 2022/23 season.

Spurs sacked manager Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday following a miserable start to the campaign that has seen last season's Champions League finalists slide down the Premier League table.

Tottenham sit 14th in England's top flight after picking up just three wins from their opening 12 games and were eliminated from the League Cup in September by fourth-tier Colchester United.

Speaking on his appointment, Mourinho said: "I am excited to be joining a club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters. The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me."

Tottenham Sack Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham Hotspurs have sacked head coach Mauricio Pochettino after five years in charge of the North London club.

Pochettino was appointed in May 2014 and led Spurs to the Champions League final last season, where they lost to Liverpool.

The 47-year-old has had a difficult start to the ongoing season with Spurs dawdling at 14th place in the Premier League.

"We were extremely reluctant to make this change," said Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

"It is not a decision the board has taken lightly, nor in haste. Regrettably domestic results at the end of last season and beginning of this season have been extremely disappointing."

Ed Woodward: Man Utd Have Clear Vision on Transfers

Manchester United have “clear vision” when it comes to transfers, says executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, with the “ultimate goal” being to “win trophies by playing exciting football”.

The Red Devils have seen their recruitment model questioned at times and Woodward has faced accusations of being too hands-on when it comes to market moves, although he maintains that is not the case.

For him, he is merely there to sign off on the deals targeted by the manager and approved by the board, and that remains Woodward’s stance after the announcement of United’s first quarter revenue results.

Woodward said in a statement made alongside the financial results: "We have a clear vision in terms of football philosophy and recruitment.

"The significant investments that we have made in recent years in areas such as transfers, recruitment infrastructure, analytics and our academy are already beginning to bear fruit.

"We are very proud to be shortly approaching a milestone 4,000th game featuring an academy player, and we are particularly optimistic regarding the considerable young talent currently coming through.

"Our ultimate goal is to win trophies by playing exciting football with a team that fuses graduates from our academy with world-class acquisition."

Rumour: Man Utd Targetting Sancho & Haaland in January

Manchester United are aiming to pull off two major transfers in January, with rumuors stating that they are preparing to attempt to sign both Jadon Sancho and Erling Braut Haaland.

United believe that there is a chance of securing a deal for Sancho in January after the 19-year-old England international was censured by Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho was fined and dropped by manager Lucien Favre for his side’s clash with Borussia Monchengladbach in October after he returned late from international duty.

The potential unease between club and player has alerted United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to the possibility that Dortmund may be prepared to sanction the sale of Sancho in January, with it previously assumed that any deal would have to be completed at the end of the season.

Their strong cash position, which is has not been hugely changed despite the announcement of a £140m increase to the club's debt on Monday, could also permit them to bring forward a deal for Red Bull Salzburg’s 19-year-old striker Haaland. The Norway international has been scouted by Solskjaer’s team, and a £85m ($110m) deal could be struck that would see Haaland sent back on loan to the Austrian club for the remainder of the season.

Van der Sar: "Manchester United Role Would Interest Me"

Edwin van der Sar has admitted that he would be open to a front office role at Manchester United at some point in the future.

Var der Sar, who is currently the CEO at Ajax, has been mentioned as a candidate for the director of football position at Old Trafford, which is still unoccupied.

“Besides my family, my wife and kids and everything I have two loves in my life," Van der Sar said. “That’s Ajax, who gave me the opportunity to develop, they scouted me, they gave me the chance to shine in the world of football."

“And the last club of my career (Manchester United) also gave me a lot of attention, recognition and everything, developed at a later stage. And of course, I’d be interested in a position."

Though he is interested in a move back to England, the 48-year-old said he may not quite be ready to trade in the Johan Cruyff Arena for Old Trafford.

“I need to learn a little more here [at Ajax], develop myself further and eventually let’s see what the future brings," Van der Sar added.

Villains Draw Against 10-Men Hammers

Aston Villa 0-0 Westham United

Aston Villa moved out of the relegation zone by drawing against a West Ham side who finished with 10 men after Arthur Masuaku's red card.

Masuaku was dismissed with 23 minutes left after picking up two bookings.

Before that, the game's major talking point saw Anwar El Ghazi clash heads with Villa team-mate Tyrone Mings, although no action was taken.

Villa's John McGinn had plenty of the game's better chances, forcing Lukasz Fabianski into two saves.

Both sides had frantic attacks late on, with penalty shouts at both ends, but neither could find the decisive touch.

De Gea Signs New Man Utd Contract

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has signed a new contract to stay with the club until 2023.

De Gea, 28, has made 367 United appearances since Sir Alex Ferguson brought him to the club from Atletico Madrid in an £18.9m deal in June 2011.

"Now my future is fixed, all I want is to help this team achieve what I believe we can and win trophies again, together," said the Spaniard.

"It has been a privilege to spend eight years at this great club."

De Gea, capped 40 times by Spain, helped United win the Premier League title in 2012-13, the FA Cup three seasons later and both the League Cup and the Europa League in 2016-17.

The Spaniard, who has consistently been linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent seasons, was in the last year of his contract and would have been able to open talks with clubs outside England over a possible move in January.

Xhaka - Arsenal Were Scared😱 Against Watford

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka conceded he and his team-mates were 'scared' in the second half of their Premier League clash with Watford on Sunday, allowing the Hornets to battle back for a 2-2 draw.

The Gunners took a two-goal lead in the first half thanks to a brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the second a superb team goal , with the Gabon international capping off a 20-pass move.

Two defensive errors in the second period led to Watford pulling level and eventually gaining a share of the spoils.

Xhaka was honest about his team’s performance after the match, saying the Gunners were disappointed, and had been punished for being 'scared'.

"We are very disappointed, we had a good first half and then we came out and played so bad in the second half,” he said to BBC Sport. “We paid for that.

"We knew they had nothing to lose and they would come for us but we didn't show our game, we were too scared, nobody wanted the ball.”
