The Man v Horse Marathon began in June 1980 following a chat over a pint
(or three) in the back bar of Neuadd Arms Hotel. The then Landlord, Gordon
Green overheard two men discussing the relative merits of men and horses
running over mountainous terrain. The enterprising Gordon, never one to miss an
opportunity to promote Llanwrtyd Wells and improve business at his hotel,
decided to put it to the

test. And so began Green Events and its first, longest
standing and now internationally acclaimed event, The Man versus Horse Marathon. The course was changed in 1982 to provide a more even match between the man
and the horse resulting year on year in very close finishes - sometimes with the
horse winning by only a few seconds. It took 25 years before a man finally beat a
horse, Huw Lobb won in 2hrs and 5mins beating the fastest horse by 2 minutes.

Pleased to meet the 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment, B Company yesterday. The Paras yesterday had 2 members who ran the whole thing, and 3 who made up a relay team. They carried the bag, which weighed 37lbs, for the whole thing and in full uniform! πŸ₯΅
These guys weren't just showing off or challenging themselves - they were also raising money for Support Our Paras. At the time of posting, they have raised Β£492 with a target of Β£2,400. Below, you will find a link to their JustGiving page, along with a QR code for you to scan too. Let's see if we can boost those numbers!
Thank you for choosing our event boys - maybe see you again next year! 🫑

These Merseyside lads just happened to ask us to take their photo for them. Little did they know that would lead to a mini-interview and a follow-up post about them.
Their story is very interesting! After doing a running training programme they found that, along with others, they weren't progressing or getting faster, and they enjoyment was fading. So, they scrapped it πŸ˜‚ They then created their own training regime which includes doing some pretty hard-core stuff. Apparently, some people join them and only end up lasting two weeks before dropping out. It really is "not for everyone"!
This year, they have signed up to do something different and difficult every month of the year. June's event was our very own, and we are very glad to have had them with us 😊
Nice to have met you lads, keep doing crazy things!

Meet Sam Griffiths. Sam is part of the Army in Wales and the British Army. Sam told me he runs a 10km often in 33mins, and I have been told he runs a marathon in 2hours 30mins. Not bad at all! But... these are only ever road races 😳 Sam set out to challenge himself by running the whole of Man versus Horse which is certainly not flat, not road, and is very hard to do fast πŸ˜„
The Army in Wales had a stall in the finishing field, as they do most years, and were happy to talk to anyone passing by. They also were the ones to carry out the warm up at the start for our runners! Thank you for this.
Sam finished the race in 3hours 25mins and 46secs. Well done to Sam for completing this amazing challenge!

Post-Race interview with Tim Davie, Director General of the BBC! Christian asks Tim why he keeps coming back every year. Tim asks if the man or the horse won 🧐

Huge thank you to these two πŸ™Œ
Izzy and Gary are a local couple, part of a local club just up the road in Builth, who do this event together every year! Talk about an annual date day 😍 This year they're volunteering to be the tail runners! It's a big task to undertake so we're very grateful to them for giving up their day to do this 😁

These two will be heading out now, cycling the whole course, and opening any gates making sure everything is clear for our runners and riders, ready for the start in just over 1.5 hours. Thank you lads! Stay posted for the 'after' photo πŸ˜†
