Did you know… / Oeddech chi’n gwybod… The cacao tree is a really special and rather delicate plant. The pods need to be cut by hand from the tree so it doesn’t get damaged.

Unlike nearly every other fruit tree, the pods grow on the branches AND the trunk. When they’re ripe, the pods are all sorts of pretty colours!

And yes, cacao (the base for chocolate) does start out as a fruit. Though sadly we’re not quite sure it counts as one of your 5 a day πŸ˜‰

You’ll find out all sorts of fascinating facts and stories around chocolate and cacao during the Chocolate Festival of Wales. There’ll be lots of chocolate experts so come armed with taste buds and lots of questions 🍫🍫🍫
