Day 3, the final day of the 2026 GBR IRC North West Championships and a new Champion Crowned!

What a fantastic way to end the regatta, 15-20kts breeze and boats fighting to the last second to claim top spot!

🥇 Overall Champion🥇 and Class 1 Winner: Eazi Tiger - Adam Kyffin/Jon Oliver's Corby 29 , impressively winning all of their races!

Class 2 Winner: Kaos - Charles Adams' Beneteau First Class 8. Battling fiercely until the very last race to claim top spot in their class!

YTC White Sails Winner: Skukusa - Stuart Lofthouse's Impala 28, leading the way with a clean sheet of race wins!

Day 2 at the 2026 GBR IRC North West Championships!

With challenging conditions in a dying breeze, the Race Committee managed to squeeze in 1 race before the wind completely switched off. This made for an incredibly tactical race course.

IRC 1 saw a packed start at the pin end, which resulted in 2 protests. Everyone had to consider whether they should go for tidal benefit or find patches of breeze. After any decisions from the protest hearings, only 2 boats managed to get a result and finish within the time limit; Eazi Tiger (Corby 29) taking another bullet and Only Just (J105) coming home in 2nd place.

In IRC 2, Kaos (First Class 8) and No Mercy (Prism 25) had a fanatstic race on the water, both battling it out all the way round the 2 lap course. In the end, Kaos crossed the line 1st and also took the race win. No Mercy finished in 2nd place, ahead of yesterday's double race winner Old School (Sonata) in 3rd position. Kaos and Old School go into Day 3 tied at the top of the table.

In YTC White Sails, Skukusa led the way, with Wild Wood clinching 2nd place from Ocean Days.

It is all still to play for, with more breeze forecast for the final day on the River Mersey, it is shaping up to be a great final day of racing to see who will be crowned 2026 Champion!

The inaugural 2026 GBR IRC North West Championships at Liverpool Yacht Club have kicked off with a bang!

The River Mersey welcomed competitors to sunshine and 12kts of breeze from the Southwest. Windward Leeward courses were set for both IRC classes to suit the conditions.

IRC 1 saw a commanding performance with 2 race wins for Eazi Tiger (Corby 29), owned by Adam Kyffin and Jon Oliver. There was also great racing between Paul Hampson’s J109 Bojangles and Laura Fitzgerald’s First 34.7 Daydream Believer, who were fighting all the way round both races for 2nd spot.

IRC 2 saw a standout performance from Ian Mcmillan’s Sonata Old School, managing to secure both race wins, followed hotly by Charles Adams’s Kaos and the local one-off design Prism 25 No Mercy, owned by Trevor Jenkins.

The YTC White sails class were sent on a longer adventure towards the Eastham side of the river, then back to the Garston side for a sprint towards the finish. Stuart Lofthouse’s Impala 28 led the way, securing the race win, followed by Ocean Days and Wild Wood.

Saturday is forecast to be lighter winds, but with breakfast, a BBQ and live music on the social schedule, competitors are sure to be ready for whatever the Mersey throws at them!
