16 months ago, my son said something that made me really proud, he wanted to do a bike ride and raise money for a charity.
He chose ‘Children with Cancer’ and so the wheels were set in motion and we set up a Just Giving page and had a couple of sponsor forms printed out for friends and family.
All this was done a week before the event and through all your generous donations, he raised just over £600.
If you can remember, the last couple of days before the ride we were updated about severe weather that was forecasted for the day. The organisers decided that they had no option but to cancel as it would have been too dangerous.
Jake was upset, he had raised a lot of money and felt like he was letting a lot of people down. He decided, that when the weather improved, he would do his own ride for the challenge. He completed the ride in April last year.
A couple of weeks ago, I was emailed from the organisers with the date of the rescheduled ride and Jake said he would like to finish what he set out to do!
So, this Saturday 6th July, Jake is doing the Evans Cycles RIDE IT Leeds MTB.
He’s not asking for more sponsorship, unless you would like to, he just wants to do this for everyone who believed in him.
The weather is looking good and Jake is getting excited, will keep you all updated with photos on the day.
Once again, thank you to everyone for your generosity x

A huge thank you to everyone who has viewed/liked my page. Finally managed to get out on the trail, on a route I had never done, and push my body to the limit. Setting off at 3 pm with a temp of 22*, I knew this was gonna be a challenge.
Steady away for the first couple of miles, up and down a few hills and even through a ford but nothing could have prepared me fo the climb ahead.
A long and continuous stretch of boulder laden track that went on as far as the eye could see was the longest and highest climb I had ever done. The only thing that kept me going was the promise of the views and the 3 miles of descent that waited on the other side.
The views were spectacular, I could see for miles and it was well worth the climb. Now was something I was waiting for, the descent. The track was very loose and it snaked down moor, soon we were gathering speed and every bump had us airborne. At the bottom the smiles said it all, feeling exhilarated we headed along a bridleway until we hit the road. We hit a top speed of 26mph downhill on the road before rejoining a track that once again took us down to the water crossing and back to Grewelthorpe and refreshments at the Inn.
A total of 11.1 miles with a climb of 1061 ft and I can proudly say, it took us 1 hr 45mins. It may have been my first off road adventure but it won’t be my last! 👍🚵‍♂️
Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me, sorry for the lateness in completing my challenge but I hope I have done you proud!

Hi All,

Just to let you know that we have received notification that the bike event Jake was taking part in tomorrow has unfortunately been cancelled due to the weather.

Jake has just been notified and is in floods of tears. Even though this is completely out of his control, he is heartbroken. I know he will feel as though he has let everyone down and especially all of those that have donated to help raise money for Children with Cancer. We are all completely overwhelmed by your kind generosity.

We are hoping Evans Cycles will manage to reschedule the event for later in the year. However if not, Jake will still take part in his own personal off road bike ride once the weather has improved. We will be looking into other trails over the weekend.

Many thanks for your kind support and we will keep you updated.

EVENT CANCELLED

Hi All,
Since last night the weather forecast has got even worse. It's now predicted to snow at Harewood from 11pm tonight until 9am on Sunday but the killer is that it's not going to go above 0degrees until 3pm on Sunday. With the added wind-chill that's a maximum of minus 6. I just can't justify running an event in these conditions, for your and my staffs safety.

It's therefore, with a heavy heart, that I'm going to cancel the event.
As I said at Rochdale, I know some of you will think nothing of cycling in these conditions but I have to think of those that will see the event going ahead as a sign that it's safe and go out unprepared.

Harewood House is closed to the public so please do not try and come along and ride the event anyway as security will ask you to leave.

On the plus side, Harewood House have agreed that we can reschedule for later in the year ( when it's hopefully drier!!) So if we can fit it in we'll let you all know and give you all a discounted pre-entry price.

Refunds
You will automatically be refunded. It might take upto 5 days so please bear with us.

Really sorry
Dean

CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER
After keeping a close eye on the weather forecast we have had to come to the decision of cancelling this weekends events, both the MTB & Road Sportive.

I'm sure some of you will be relieved whilst others will be thinking come on its only a bit of snow but we need to think of those that will see the event going ahead as a sign that everything is safe and may go out unprepared.

It's never an easy decision to make to cancel a ride or to predict how the weather conditions may develop over the next few days. As well as the safety of riders we have to think about the safety of our event team in preparing the event too.

All riders will be issued a full refund shortly and this will be processed back onto the method of payment used originally and show within 5-7 working days.

We will look into the feasibility of rescheduling this ride for another date later in the year and if that is possible we will let you all know.

Please note that Harewood house is currently closed to the public so please do not try to come along to ride the routes anyway as security will turn you away.

We are sorry for any disappointment that this may cause and hope to see you at another ride soon.

Jake wanted a challenge, and to do something like ‘daddy does’.
So, when I signed up for the EVANS CYCLES RIDE IT, I put Jake’s name down too. It was Jake’s idea to do it for charity and cancer research has always been one close to our hearts, he chose one for children.
