This weekend felt like the most fitting tribute to Jamie Thompson anyone could have given our friend Jimbob as we called him. Both Scunthorpe Autograss and Sturton and stow Autograss - SSMSC were running two of the biggest meetings of the year — and with both clubs packed out, it meant a full grid of people who knew Jimbob, shared laughs with him, and respected him. Two clubs, one community, all paying their respects in the way only autograss knows how.
To us at the Vanderbar, Jimbob wasn’t just a customer — he was family. A proper colourful character. The kind who’d brighten the bar up the second he walked up. The kind who’d have everyone laughing before he’d even sat down. The kind whose stories got bigger every time he told them — and we loved him for it. He left a mark on every single one of us, and the place won’t feel the same without him.
And we’ll never forget the 2024 Nationals. When he wasn’t well enough to attend, we turned up with our motorhome, big screen on, gazebo out — having our own little Nationals party in his back garden. No crowd, no fuss, just us and him. A small moment, but one of the most meaningful ones we’ve ever had. We’ll carry that day with us forever.
Sending all our love to Jimbob’s family, his friends, and everyone across both clubs. He touched a lot of hearts — and this weekend showed just how many.
