Headingley Enterprise and Arts Centre - HEART - is the arts, enterprise and community centre in the middle of Headingley run by the community for the community. People are at our heart – as well as it is the way we operate in the building. HEART exists thanks to the efforts of Headingley Development Trust that worked hard to keep this old primary school in community use. At the heart of Headingley, we offer a versatile venue to hire, a spacious shared workspace and a varied programme of events and classes. Visit us for fun or for work, but make sure you stop by Assembly Bar + Kitchen nestled inside the building – a great place to grab a drink or a bite to eat with family or friends.

🍎 To celebrate the harvest time this Autumn, join us for an exciting apple-themed event to appreciate everyone’s favourite fruit!

Apple Day returns to HEART on the first Saturday of October, where you can expect apple juicing sessions, live music, Morris Dancing, local beers and mulled c***r, special seasonal food, crafts, and an evening ceilidh! A big thank you to Headingley Community Orchard for providing the apples 🍏

The Morris Dancing will be performed by the wonderful Briggate Morris and Aire Valley Morris, with dances starting at 11.30am and 1pm! Drop by for some live music in the playground, and treat yourself to some freshly pressed apple juice as you listen and watch. There will be plenty of fun activities for kids too, so it’s a perfect occasion to get the whole family involved!

📖 Interested in zines? Join us for two free zine-making workshops for 11-16 year-olds on Saturday 19th September!

📅 Morning session: 10am - 12pm
📅 Afternoon session: 1pm - 3pm

To celebrate Leeds history as part of Leeds 400, this zine-making workshop will guide you through creating your own zine and teach you about the history of zines in Leeds. There will be a morning session and an afternoon session, both hosted by local artist Blue. Each workshop will be 2 hours long.

Blue is a Comic and Concept Art graduate from Leeds Arts University, currently studying MA Illustration. His session will take you through the history of zines, how they're made, and what they can be, comic, art book, poetry, writing, whatever suits you best. You'll make your own one-sheet folded zine to take home, with an optional prompt inspired by what Leeds means to you. Blue will also be sharing highlights from Leeds Central Library's zine library and the zine scene in the local area.

🎬 Film Feast: Shoplifters

Films at HEART will celebrate Japan with our next Film Feast, showing the psychological drama Shoplifters alongside a meal from our ABK café (vegan alternative available)!

The film follows a dysfunctional band of outsiders on the margins of Tokyo, united by fierce loyalty and a penchant for petty theft. When the young son is arrested, secrets are exposed that upend their tenuous, below-the-radar existence and test their quietly radical belief that it is love—not blood—that defines a family.

For the feast, our head chef will prepare Nikujaga, a Japanese comfort food typically combing beef, soft potatoes and carrots simmered in a soy-based broth. There will be both a meat option and a vegan option available to choose from, included in the ticket price!

On the 15th of September, we are delighted to welcome back drummer and composer Miles Pillinger! Through Afro-Brazilian jazz inspired compositions, Miles intertwines raw improvisation with uplifting, meaningful melodies and invites you into his unique sound world. His upcoming debut album ‘Belonging’ highlights the importance of what and who makes you feel like you.

Miles will be joined by Olivia Cuttill on trumpet, Benjy Sandler on saxophone/ flute, Josh Vadiveloo on bass, and Tom Harris on piano.

We are delighted to welcome Leeds singer and saxophonist Emma Coates for our next Tuesday Night Live performance! Weaving jazz and folk songwriting to create her unique, intimate sound, she takes inspiration from the likes of Joni Mitchell, This Is The Kit and Esperanza Spalding.

Emma will be joined by Tom McEwen (guitar), Nika Ticciati (bass) and Louis Berthoud (drums) as they explore feminine identity and growth through deeply personal storytelling, complimented by the delicate and airy tones of her voice and band.

🐻Next Thursday, the bears are back in LS6!!

We are super excited to be a part of the Great LS6 Bear Hunt again this year, alongside some of our favourite organisations!

Grab a lunchbox from in the morning, before making your way over to the Cardigan Road Bear Pit for a teddy bear's picnic and craft sessions with , and 3 Story and Rhyme sessions hosted by ! From there, you can celebrate the 100 year birthday of Winnie The Pooh with at 11:00 and 13:00 with bear badge-making, as well as a bear-themed craft session at at 11:00-12:30!

🌱 Meet Lynn — our Rewilding facilitator for HEART Summer Schools!

Lynn's session is all about getting outside and learning how to look at the world differently. In the morning you'll explore permaculture principles, map habitats, and test soil — then in the afternoon you'll bring your own designs to life, whether that's a mini window box, a bug house, or mapping the HEART site itself.

Open to young people aged 11–16. No experience needed.
