Looking for something different for your teenager?

Over the past couple of weeks, cadets from Larne have taken part in some incredible opportunities — including Air Experience Flying (AEF) and Live Firing & Marksmanship Training (LFMT).

✈️ Air Experience Flying
Cadets enjoy a one-to-one flight with an RAF pilot, building their understanding of aircraft instruments, air navigation, and the principles of flight — often with the added thrill of aerobatics!

🎯 Live Firing & Marksmanship Training
Cadets begin with air rifle training, learning key principles that prepare them for progression onto the L98 A2 General Purpose rifle. LFMT develops discipline, focus, and hand–eye coordination — all in a safe, structured environment.

These activities are not only exciting but also build confidence, teamwork, and valuable life skills.

Air Cadets from Larne, Antrim and Carrickfergus successfully completed their Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition over the 18th & 19th April.

The two-day journey took them along the stunning North Coast, travelling from Portrush to Dunseverick Castle, with an overnight stay under canvas. Their expedition aim focused on investigating wildlife along the coastline, giving cadets the opportunity to develop their environmental awareness.

All 11 cadets completed and passed their expedition — a fantastic achievement for everyone involved. They are now looking ahead with enthusiasm to starting their Silver Award.

There are exciting times ahead planned for Larne Air Cadets, and it’s not too late to join. If you’re interested in aviation, adventure and making new friends, get in touch and come along to see what we do!

Sector One Adventure Training & Duke of Edinburgh Skills Day in the Antrim Hills 🥾

We’ve had a fantastic day in the Antrim Hills, developing adventure training skills and strengthening teamwork across Sector One, all while working towards our Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. The great weather was definitely a bonus!

Our cadets put their map reading and navigation skills into practice, tackling the terrain with confidence and determination. They also learned essential expedition skills, including setting up tents, using storm shelters and cooking meals safely.

A great effort from everyone involved and plenty of valuable experience gained along the way. Well done to all who took part!

As Larne Air Cadets come out of the Christmas and New Year break, it’s a great time to look back on the busy and rewarding few months we had.

Our cadets undertook weapon training, live firing and marksmanship, with many achieving Blue, Bronze and Silver shooting badges – a fantastic achievement all round. Cadets also had the opportunity to put their flying skills to the test on our flight simulator.

We completed a successful bag pack to help raise vital funds for new squadron training equipment, and delivered Blue level fieldcraft training covering subjects such as two-person shelters and feeding in the field.

We finished off the year with our Christmas outing, enjoying a game of bowling and a few (soft!) drinks to celebrate a great end to 2025.

This weekend, the cadets of 833DF Larne Squadron were turned out to the highest standard for both the Poppy Appeal street collection in Larne town centre on Saturday and the Royal British Legion Remembrance Parade on Sunday.

Our cadets carried out their duties with pride, serving as Guard of Honour and laying a wreath at the cenotaph in remembrance of those who gave so much.

We would like to thank the people of Larne for their generous support throughout the Poppy Appeal. It was a great honour for our cadets and staff to pay our respects alongside the community.

Cadets from Larne Air Cadets, aged 13–20, regularly have the opportunity to take part in Air Experience Flying, where they learn about all aspects of flying — and the excitement of putting that knowledge into practice!

From discovering how an aircraft handles in the air to experiencing the controls first-hand, this unique opportunity helps our young people build confidence, develop skills, and gain a real appreciation of aviation.

This past week Larne Air Cadets took part in an Essential First Aid training session, covering key lifesaving skills through both lessons and hands-on practice.

✅ Primary Survey – learning how to quickly assess a casualty’s condition.
✅ Recovery Position – keeping an unconscious casualty safe while waiting for help.
✅ CPR – practicing vital chest compressions that can save lives in an emergency.
✅ Choking – how to react quickly and effectively when every second counts.
✅ Minor & Major Bleeds – understanding how to manage injuries, from small cuts to serious bleeding.

Our cadets showed fantastic focus and enthusiasm, building confidence in skills that could one day make all the difference. 💪
