Largs Viking Festival

Largs Viking Festival This is the official page of the Largs Viking Festival. The week culminates in the ever popular Festival of fire, organised by North Ayrshire Council.

On behalf of the Largs Viking Festival Committee, we are pleased to extend a warm welcome to our Festival page. We hope that the information provided will meet your requirements and persuade you that a trip to Largs will be very worthwhile and enjoyable. Our Festival takes place every year on Largs promenade (last weekend in Aug - first weekend of September) and draws people from near and

far to celebrate Norse/Scots heritage in Largs, notably the Battle of Largs of 1263 which was the scene of the last Viking invasion in the UK and led to the Treaty of Perth in 1266 when Norway ceded all claim to the Western Isles. There are events and fringe events for all the family throughout the week starting with the opening day parade, opening ceremony, entertainments and various Viking activities mainly taking place in the replica Viking village. During the week we have school parties through the village from 10am - 1.30/2pm (please note the village is still open to the public during these times, right up till 4pm). If you are a school party wishing to book please phone Vikingar on 01475689777 (please don't leave it too late to book as spaces are limited). The Vikings will re-enact the 1263 battle and burn a long ship. This will be followed by a fireworks display, entertainment and truly spectacular end to the Festival. The Festival Board look forward to seeing you in Largs and, once you see what is on offer for all the family in such a beautiful location, trust you will make an annual return.
