October is Protect Your Hearing Month, and a crucial time to raise awareness about the importance of hearing protection and the steps we can take to preserve our hearing health… Especially as musicians and babies who, honestly did enjoy the show!

Some steps that can help…

1. Avoid Loud Noises (where possible!)
Understand Noise Levels: Be aware of noise levels in your environment. Sounds above 85 decibels (dB) can be harmful with prolonged exposure.

2. Use Hearing Protection:
Wear earplugs or earmuffs in noisy environments.

3. Maintain Safe Listening Habits:
Volume Control: Keep the volume at a safe level when using headphones or earbuds. Follow the 60/60 rule: listen at no more than 60% of maximum volume for no longer than 60 minutes at a time.

4. Protect Ears From Infection and Injury:
Keep Ears Dry: Dry your ears thoroughly after swimming or showering to prevent infections.

We were so very sad to hear of the passing of Paul Clark. A much-loved musician and a hugely valued member of the jazz community.

Paul played saxophone with several groups who performed at Lancaster Jazz Festival over the years, including offtherailsbigband, Kader and . He was also a passionate supporter of our festival, and was the very first person to sign up on the day we announced our new membership scheme. A fantastic example of his commitment to, and belief in, the local jazz community.

He will be hugely missed by all of us at Lancaster Jazz Festival, and by the wider Lancaster music community.
A celebration of Paul is taking place on 26 October at The Gregson Centre so please do check that out.
