It’s with a heavy heart we have to let you know that there will be no Lancaster Jazz Festival this year. Despite extensive efforts, we have been unable to secure funding from our primary funder and subsequently, we are not able to deliver the festival in 2026.

Since 2011, we have hosted a festival in the city of Lancaster, presenting artists and audiences with a welcoming space to come together and share in the celebration of contemporary jazz music. It’s been a hub for connectivity, collaboration and a spring board for some of the UK’s most innovative artists.

We know that this will be disappointing news, and we share that disappointment deeply. We’ve explored multiple options to take things forward but we hold strong these two core principles: that we will not compromise on the quality and experience for artists and audiences, and that we will not ask people to work for free.

We plan to be back as big and bright as ever in 2027.

Until then,
Dave, Lucy and the Lancaster Jazz Festival team.

A poem by that was written at during 's gig, and performed the next day at our innovation hub for WordPlay. Our spoken word, poetry and jazz session with ...

Friday night, solo ticket to the jazz dimension
Solitude gives introspection and apprehension
Shriek by my ear like glass under feet
And a dropped glass a hammer on my knee
Not the 'jump up' I was expecting

Concurrent Chatter blending into one murmur made loud
Often soothes like soup
But tonight cacophenous conversation..crowds
But loops in and I'm in the loop
Silicon silences the sea around me
My buds, leaving only the band.
And thought melts into feel with glee
Like ghee in a pan

A shining moon showers the room
In liquid like light
Bass through chair to body, a warm bath cocoon
A poet reacting to jazz, I watch and write.
Now Saturday a jazz band reacts to poets
Feeling meets thoughts once again
As I read this and they meld music to words over it
In this room filled with creativity and freinds

Art layering upon itself thousand fold
Like Samurai Damascus steel
I polish up the poem earlier told
And so on spins the wheel

Today is ! Established by UNESCO in 2011, it's a 'global recognition of jazz as a unifying force that brings people together across cultures and generations'. Which is something we love to see at Lancaster Jazz Festival every year.

From its roots in New Orleans to stages across the world, jazz has continually evolved whilst always inspiring creativity and collaboration. So, today we wanted to do a shout out to all the incredible artists, audiences and communities who keep this vibrant tradition alive and support along the way too!

Remembering the electrifying Nu-Jazz Fusion that NONUNONU brought to Lancaster Jazz Festival 2025 at Kanteena!

Manchester’s delivered high-energy nu-jazz fusion with intricate compositions and dynamic improvisation. Every performance is a unique journey, from furious intensity to gentle introspection. Their heavy improvisational influences and intense group interplay means that the show is different every time, as they explore the new directions a composition can go. It was a spellbinding live experience.

👥 Line up: .liyu – vocals, Ewen Turner – keyboard, Sam Kirkham – drums, Henry Holborn – bass

Lancaster Jazz will be back 9-13 September 2026 with more jazz for you!
