🌊 Happy World Oceans Day everybody! 🌊

This is a snap from my return to Orkney yesterday, when we were treated to a dramatically calm crossing with the colours to boot!

The Atlantic Ocean is at the core of what we do at Fiadh. We sustainably harvest eggwrack seaweed (Ascophyllum nodosum) from Orkney's coasts to infuse into every drop of our products, along with our beloved seaweed.

But did you know- Eggwrack seaweed isn't just good for skin and hair- it's also a major player in marine ecosystems! As well as sheltering crabs, molluscs and tiny fish, it also hosts a beautiful red algae which is specific to the North Sea.

Much like the foragers code, we follow a sustainable set of rules when harvesting our seaweed- from the time of year and quantity to the type of shoes we wear.

I've celebrated World Ocean day with a dip in the sea and a play in the seaweed. What have you been up to?

I'm off to visit Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen where I'll be representing the islands in the Startup Accelerator Showcase 2026 ✨

A week or so ago I won Best Pitch at the Islands Startup Accelerator Showcase 🏆 Now I've kindly been offered to speak about the budding entrepreneurship and wonderful innovative business ideas blooming in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles.

The last 4 months with the Startup Accelerator have been revolutionary for Fiadh. As well as inspiring a name change and total rebranding, it's helped us dream big about the impact we can make in Orkney and potentially further across Scotland 🌍

Fiadh creates natural skin and hair care products, using locally foraged nettle and seaweed, and reinvests profits into workshop reconnecting communities with their natural resources 🌿

The Aberdeen Startup Accelerator Showcase will take place:

Hawthorn flowers from Happy Valley were the pick of the day today 🌿

⚪ Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) leaves and flowers are heart and blood health superfoods, helping open blood vessels and strengthen heart muscles. The flowers taste quite like apple - the kind that keeps the doctor away!

Hawthorn bushes can be found used as hedges, in woodlands and on roadsides.

I'll be drying these up for my biscuit decorations. What are you doing with yours?

Dandelions and dog violet drying in the sun 🌞 What a gorgeous day for flower picking 🌸

I'll be using these to decorate biscuits for RGU's Aberdeen Startup Accelerator Showcase next week, where I've kindly been invited to speak as a representative for the islands cohort of the Aberdeen & Islands Startup Accelerator 2026 ✨

🟣 Soothing dog violet (Viola Riviniana) is anti inflammatory and can be found in woodlands, shady banks, heath and grasslands.

🟡 Power-house dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) is packed with antioxidants, aiding liver and general digestive health, and can be found just about anywhere.

Horizons are looking bright for Fiadh 🌅

This weekend we were incredibly proud to win the Best Pitch Award at the Robert Gordon University Startup Accelerator Showcase 2026!

It’s been a huge few months of developing Fiadh, refining products, delivering workshops and sharing our vision for a social enterprise rooted in sustainability, community and wild ingredients from Orkney — so this recognition means a lot.

Huge thanks to the RGU Startup Accelerator team, mentors and everyone who has supported Fiadh so far. We’re only just getting started.

And watch this space… new packaging is on its way for our seaweed & nettle hair and skincare range 🌿

🌿 We’ve been quietly growing these past few months—nurturing our little idea into the social enterprise it was always meant to be 🌿

With workshops expanding and our botanical products nearly ready for the shelves, it feels like the right time to share the first step in our glow up…

✨ A new name ✨

Fiadh (pronounced “fear”) Botanicals (for the cosmetics) & Wildcrafts (for the workshops)

“Fiadh” means wild in old Gaelic—and that connection to wild nature is at the heart of everything we do 🌱

Nothing else is changing—just the name. More workshops, more nettle and seaweed creations, and more to come 🌾
