The Official UK "Wife" Carrying Championship is now open for entries and is coming to the beautiful harbour town of Kirkcudbright on Sunday 19 July 2026.

Grab your partner, friend, gym buddy or work colleague and tackle a 250m obstacle course featuring water and log jumps.

⚖️ Minimum weight = 49kg
🏃‍♂️ Choose your carrying style wisely
👫 And yes — your “wife” can be anyone - friend, partner, parent - anyone!
🌟 Minimum age 18
💪 You've got to be strong enough to carry your partner over obstacles - think a horse cross country course

It’s part sport, part teamwork, and 100% entertainment 😂

Don't fancy competing in the Official UK "Wife" Carrying Championships?

No problem - the event is part of the Kirkcudbright Country Fair, so why not come along, watch the chaos unfold and also enjoy all the great entertainment of the Country Fair. There are main arena shows, LOADS of kids rides and entertainment (included in the entry cost), food and drink and plenty to fill a delightful day in Kirkcudbright.
