The Sanctuary, Borgue

The Sanctuary, Borgue Formerly Borgue Church (Church of Scotland) The Sanctuary (formerly Borgue Church) is a space for contemplation, celebration and learning.

Available for private hire for ceremonies, gatherings and workshops from early 2023, it offers a space for the local community as well as visitors to the area. Taken over by local resident, Tigger MacGregor, in late 2022 if you have a vision for the space please do get in touch. With the community at its heart, the more ideas and energy involved, the better!

I loved spiral staircases as a child. I never imagined I'd own one on the *outside* of a building! /Tigger

Popped in to the Harbour Cottage Gallery Kirkcudbright today to see this gorgeous exhibition. So many beautiful originals and prints! Well worth a visit. /Tigger

In a fortnight I’ll be in the Harbour Cottage and, following that exhibition, I’ll be in Bowness for two weekends. Please come and say hello if you’re in the area.

What are your plans for the church, Tigger?

Step 1: sell the pews!

Definitely making headway on that one - 20 more to lift but with some already spoken for that leaves around 15 still available (£150 each).

I'm enjoying going slowly with rehoming the pews - it feels like it's giving this amazing space the chance to get used to the idea that things are changing.

Step 2? Watch this space ;) /Tigger

Long term I plan to have, at minimum, enough pews to go along the perimeter of the main body of the kirk. With the pews veritably flying* out of the doors at the moment it felt like the right time to try some out - and be reminded just how long a 10 ft pew really is!

Phase two of lifting the pews will be happening in April - do get in touch if you'd be interested in buying one (£150 each).

* This may be a _little_ bit of an exaggeration, but there's definitely be an unexpectedly high number going to new homes recently

Always a delight to catch up with Beatrix from TrixPix Ltd - and super exciting when we're discussing the first edit this fantastic film-maker is putting together of The Sanctuary. Watch this space!

And if you're in the area - now's the perfect time to see the crocus-filled Field of Hope in the graveyard. Stunning.

These two pews (along with a bundle more) are now on their way to being seating at the gorgeous Galloway House Gardens. I love the stories of where the pews will spend their next phase of their lives - and it's even better when a whole host of people get to enjoy them!

The chalked number "12" is the pew number - each pew was numbered in the kirk and I've made sure to keep a record both of the pews' locations in the kirk and on the pews themselves. On most of them you can also just about make out the ghost of the original numbers on the pew end.

Pews still available for £150 each (bulk purchase discounts available) - get in touch for more details.

Sunlight dappling the walls of the kirk will always be magical to me. And heading up to visit and air the building these days is WAY less stressful now I've got bird-deterrent curtains :)
