🎉 Join the YM for a Historic Celebration at Kirkcaldy YMCA! 🎉

We’re marking two incredible milestones this year, and we’d love you to be part of the celebrations:

✨ 70 years of the “YM” at Hendry Crescent, which first opened on 4th May 1956
✨ 140 years of Kirkcaldy YMCA (established 1886) serving generations in the town.

To celebrate, we’re hosting a special anniversary night filled with live music- a tradition Kirkcaldy YMCA has proudly upheld since the 1960s, when the YM was known for legendary gigs and an incredible local music scene.

🎶 This year’s performers include State of Emergency, Definition & other local musicians. And making it even more special is that many of the band members grew up coming through the YM as young people themselves. It’s a full‑circle moment and a true celebration of the role the YM has played in Fife’s music culture for decades.

📅 Friday 1st May
🏢YMCA, Hendry Crescent, Kirkcaldy
🕖 7pm–11pm
💷 Tickets £10 – BYOB and snacks

📩 Tickets go on sale on Friday 20th March. Reserve your tickets by emailing:

…or buy in person at the YM in Hendry Crescent or the Gallatown Hub.
Come along, reconnect with old friends, enjoy brilliant live music, and celebrate the amazing history- and future- of Kirkcaldy YMCA. ❤️

Yesterday, those who were fortunate had the opportunity to say farewell to a friend and neighbour, George Thomson, who passed away at the end of the year.

Anyone who met George would discover two things about him within a minute: he is a veteran of the RAF Regiment (40 years of service) and Batman, haha!

Some were fortunate to spend time with George during his retirement phase while we volunteered in the Wild Space. I'm looking back at that time with deep gratitude.

On behalf of the community group, I would like to express both sadness and appreciation as he left his mark on the community in a variety of ways - including Batman stickers all around the street 😂

This news article explains why volunteers, of all ages, invest their precious time in maintaining the Wild Space at Kirkcaldy YMCA Gallatown Hub

Funding may cover staffing costs for family sessions but it's the unpaid who make it a usable space for everyone else's health benefit - especially the kids!

By now many will have seen that the space was featured in the local news due to anti-social behaviour.

It's important to remember the reasons we had a mud-kitchen there to burn in the first place and keep talking about those important reasons because, the hard fact is, too many families are rarely outdoors and building their resilience.

They need a space that might tempt them away from screens and this article Sky News article says it well.

It made me realise that the next step is to build a new mud-kitchen ☺️ help will be welcomed 👍

Ryan Bayne

Time spent in nature can reduce stress and anxiety, boost fitness and sleep, and help build resilience, experts say, but many children do not experience it.
