Since 2015, the Hull Marathon and Relays has supported many runners in fundraising, achieving personal bests and has received fantastic community support and engagement.

However, having reviewed the challenges faced over the past 7 years and the ongoing issues surrounding the delivery of a quality race that showcases the local area, we have had to make the difficult decision to rest the event until completion of the A63 works, alongside consideration of the event’s ongoing financial viability.

Thanks to everyone that has supported us and made the event a success each year. The city deserves a big marathon, and we hope the marathon will return to Kingston upon Hull in the near future.

The Humber Bridge Half Marathon will return on 18 June with the fun run, supporting local charities and will include a relay option for 2023.

Our high viz heroes! 🦸‍♂️

Thankyou so much to everyone that volunteered at our event yesterday, your support for the running community is invaluable and without you these events can’t go ahead! 👏🏻

Also a big shout out to Hessle High School for providing a great setting for the race HQ and finish area, and to Omnis Highway Solutions Ltd for the traffic management.

The Humber Bridge Half Marathon is next year due to take place on Sunday 18th June 2023. More information will follow soon. 👀

A massive thanks to our logistics team and the support of Wren Kitchens, who for the last three days have worked tirelessly to ensure that everything was in place for the event today.

There will be four vendors present tomorrow providing a variety of refreshments.

Greek Treat, The Hull Pie, Coffee Cabin and Mr Whippy Ice Cream will be on site to cater for your post race needs, and the refuel your spectators too!

Be sure to check them out near to the finish line at Hessle High School.

Number collection for all runners is available between 10am (no earlier) and 2pm on Saturday 24 September at Hessle High School, HU13 0JQ.

Parking will be available at the school. You may collect numbers for other runners.

Collection will be under team names for relay runners and surname for the Half Marathon and fun run.

On race day, Sunday 25 September, registration will be open from 7am to collect your race number. Please allow plenty of time to get your number before the race starts at 9:00am. (9:10am for the fun run)

Those in a relay team will have four numbers and a timing chip on each. The lowest two numbers should be allocated to the leg 1 and 2 runners starting with the mass start at 9am. The remaining numbers will be for the leg 3 and 4 runners starting in Barton upon Humber.

Important event announcement

It is regrettable that despite our bet endeavours, we have had to make the difficult decision to withdraw the Solo marathon element of the race on Sunday 25 September.

From Lucas, our event director:
‘We have worked hard to retain a marathon for the city and been determined to deliver it. We appreciate those who have trained towards the event and the disappointment this will cause at this stage. However, over the last 48 hours it has become unviable to do so with infrastructure challenges causing increasing costs and availability of personnel to deliver a safe event. I had hoped we would see the usual late surge of entries but this has not occurred. Additionally, we have struggled to bring in the volunteer numbers needed and cannot justify the expense of employed personnel to deliver the marathon course.’

‘The 4 person relay will now be moved to the Half Marathon course with 2 runners joining the mass start and passing on to a team mate at the changeover point in Barton upon Humber near the 6 mile point.’

All those effected have been sent a direct email explaining the options now available. Please refer to this email, it maybe in a spam or junk folder. We ask you to email all questions once you have read the email to ensure they address your individual queries.

Our thanks to our partners and team working behind the scenes on the event. We can confirm the Humber Bridge Half Marathon and Fun run with the 4 person relay will continue as planned.

At this stage we cannot advise on plans for a 2023 marathon as we will need to review the challenges faced this year and continued down turn in race entries across the board. LKR Events will continue to deliver a range of events that remain financially viable.

The Hull Marathon and four person relays takes place FIVE weeks today!

If 26.2 miles is too much for you, why not team up with 3 more friends to make a 4 person team and split it up into a mix of distances?

Free shuttle buses run for relay runners to take you to and from the relay start/finish points, and all finishers still get a medal and t-shirt!
