🚗 Parking at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena is for wheelchair and race vehicles only. The main car park is at Scott Ellis Recreation Ground, Newmill Rd, Kilmarnock, KA1 3JB which is directly behind the arena. The car park is a 500m to walk / jog to the arena, but avoids any queueing.
Queens Drive will be completely closed for the start and will be one way until all competitors have finished. If arriving from the Glasgow direction, take the second exit for Kilmarnock, signposted B7082 (your satnav may direct you via the next junction but depending on the time you may encounter road closures)You can also park at Odeon Cinemas on Queens Drive Kilmarnock, KA1 3XF but you need to be parked before 9am.
🎒Changing and bag drop
There are a limited number of changing rooms, with lockers, available at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena but most folks should arrive ready to run.
A bag drop facility is available in the indoor track area. Please follow the one way system through this area. NB: bags are left at your own risk and the Ayrshire Athletics Arena cannot be held responsible for any losses.
🧻Toilets
There will be 20 Portaloo toilets and 8 urinals in the lower grass field and an equivalent amount in the arena in the public toilet and changing rooms.
💧 There is a water station at the 6K point provided by Kilmarnock Football Club. Listen out for the Loudon Musical Society.
Kilmarnock Baptist Church are kindly providing a second water point with around 1.5K to go, where you will be serenaded by the Centrestage Gospel Choir. There is also a bottle of water in your goody bag.
⏲️ To help you judge your speed and hopefully gain a PB we are providing pacers who will target 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 minutes. Watch out for them in their electric pink T shirts with the target time on the back.
🎥 Ayrshire Film Company Will be running a live feed of the event. Don't be surprised if someone approaches you with a mic for a few comments. They will be providing a live feed of the race, which you can find here - https://youtube.com/live/vNBp5slKTro?feature=share Start ProcedurePre race music starts at 8.00am.
🏃Start procedure
Pre race music starts at 8.00am. There will then be an aerobics warm up delivered by the fabulous Killie Cheerleaders, from 9.30 till 9.40 on the first bend of the track – you won’t want to miss this. When asked to make your way to the start line which is on the AAA access road, please keep spread out. The start area will be marked with ‘pens’ based on predicted time.
🏁Start waves
The start area will be marked with ‘pens’ based on predicted time.
We have increased the numbers running by 11% this year. To avoid congestion in the centre of the town, we will be starting the race in 4 waves with approx 1 minute between waves. This will not affect your chip time and should mean you get a clearer run at the start.
Try not to impede faster runners by overstating your capabilities.
Your time will be recorded when you cross the start mat, regardless of where you lined up. The first start air horn blast will be for the wheelchair race which starts 2 minutes before the main field.
⚠️ Road Hazards
There is a speed bump approx. 30 metres from the start line, please watch out for this at the start and when heading back into the arena towards the finish. Please also be aware of speed bumps in Holmes Rd (between 2 and 3K) and of other irregularities on road surfaces.
🔚 Finish procedure
Watch out for the 600, 400 and 200 countdown signs and remember you finish with a lap of the track. After crossing the line you will receive your medal. Next pick up your goody bag and finally your T shirt. Ladies fitted T shirts are on the left. Mens / unisex T shirts are on the right. T shirts are available in Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large.
🍪 The goody bag will contain a number of treats and a race brochure. Look our for discounts, offers and a voucher from Kilmarnock FC for a complementary ticket for a Premiership match in the 2026 / 2027 season (*conditions apply) AND the famous Brownings, Roon the Toon, Empire Biscuit.
Please do not stop in this area. The recovery and repatriation area is in the infield.
🤕 First aid
There are 2 cycle patrols moving along the route, a Rapid Response Vehicle at the water station at 6K and a Sweeper. Vehicle at the back of the field. The First Aid tent at the AAA is on the left just through the finish.
🏆Prizes
We plan to present prizes to the winners of the wheelchair and footrace categories 30 to 40 minutes after the first runner has crossed the line (approx. 11.10). A further presentation of the Special Category Team prizes will take place approx. 30 minutes later. Please listen out for announcements.
NB: Prizes are awarded on Gun Time.
🗳️ Results
Individual results are available dynamically at www.perfecttimingscotland.co.uk/results , or you can get a printout from the timing vehicle near the finish. All runners will have their individual time sent to their mobile phone within minutes of finishing.
💛Our race charity
If you have a great day and are feeling particularly generous on your "runners high", the race charity Ayrshire Cancer Support would really welcome any donations. You can do this here - www.ayrshirecs.org/donate or there will be a stand manned by their volunteers near the entrance gate.
