At just 14 years old, Hollie Brewell from Belper, Derbyshire, has completed her first two-day 160km endurance ride with her barefoot Arab gelding, Cotswolds Shaquille. ๐Ÿ’š

Riding at Pembrey on 30โ€“31 May, Hollie and nine-year-old โ€œSharquiโ€ tackled 80km each day across a route that included forest tracks, dunes, deep sand, stony going, boggy sections and the beach.

For Hollie, the achievement still hasnโ€™t quite sunk in.

โ€œIt feels amazing; itโ€™s not quite sunk in yet. I didnโ€™t think I had it in me, so itโ€™s made me realise I can do things when I set my mind to it.โ€

The beach was one of Hollieโ€™s biggest worries before the ride, after a previous fall at The Wirral left her with concussion. But at Pembrey, it became the highlight of the weekend.

โ€œMy favourite part actually was the beach for both of us, and Sharqui really looked forward to it each time we were riding up the dunes.โ€

Sharqui, a 15.2hh chestnut purebred Arab gelding, competed fully barefoot โ€” the result of careful preparation, hoof care and thoughtful route planning. He finished the ride feeling so well that he was still jogging around the venue afterwards, looking for the best grass!

โ€œWhen he finished with an โ€˜Aโ€™ for action after all those kilometres, I was so proud and happy that my horse was healthy and happy too,โ€ said Hollie.

Hollieโ€™s mum, Angela, said the most emotional moment was watching them canter out of the forest at the end of the ride, with Sharquiโ€™s ears still pricked and both horse and rider looking happy.

This achievement has been built steadily. Hollie and Sharqui have progressed through pleasure rides, novice, open and young rider success, before stepping up to Advanced level this year. Their season included a two-day 80km at Haywood Oaks and a two-day 120km at Shuckburgh before taking on Pembrey.

And Hollieโ€™s advice to other young riders thinking about giving endurance a go?

โ€œDo it! But warn your mum and dad, as itโ€™s addictive!โ€

A brilliant achievement from a young rider with a very special partnership. Congratulations Hollie, Sharqui and team. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿด

This Volunteersโ€™ Week, weโ€™re also saying thank you to the dedicated Endurance GB Board of Directors.

Our Board members volunteer their time, experience and passion to help guide the future of our sport. Working alongside our committees, officials, organisers and wider volunteer network, they support our members, our horses and the continued development of endurance riding across England and Wales.

Much of this work happens quietly behind the scenes, but it plays an important role in helping Endurance GB remain safe, welcoming and rooted in our core value: putting horse welfare first.

From governance and strategy to member support, welfare, rules, development and long-term planning, our Board helps shape the sport we all love โ€” from social rides to international championships.

To every current and past Board member: thank you for giving your time, knowledge and commitment to Endurance GB. Your work helps protect our sport today and build for its future. ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’š

This Volunteersโ€™ Week, weโ€™re saying a huge thank you to the volunteers who keep every ride running to time โ€” our brilliant timekeepers.

Timekeepers are the official clock of an Endurance GB event. From recording when riders start and finish, to keeping track of holds, vet gates and presentation windows, their accuracy helps keep the day fair, organised and safe.

Itโ€™s a role that takes focus, calmness and attention to detail โ€” especially when several riders arrive together, horses are coming and going, and everyone is looking for the right time, card or result!

Behind every set of results is a timekeeping team making sure the records are clear, the calculations are correct and the right information gets to the right people.

To every timekeeper: thank you. Your precision, patience and calm presence help our rides run smoothly from the first horse out to the final finisher home. ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿด One for the Natives!

At 69, Amanda Carson and her Connemara pony proved that endurance really is for every rider, every equine and every kind of ambition.

The pair took on the demanding 80km at Dialstone, covering open moorland, stony tracks, woodland glades, river crossings โ€” and even a tractor run on a steep single-track road โ€” to come home not only sound, but winners.

Amandaโ€™s story is a wonderful reminder that endurance isnโ€™t just about speed or elite competition. Itโ€™s about partnership, patience, courage and enjoying the journey with your horse.

This Volunteersโ€™ Week, we couldnโ€™t celebrate the people behind our sport without saying a huge thank you to our Ride Organisers.

Ride Organisers are the people who make the ride happen. They bring together venues, landowners, routes, officials, volunteers, riders and all the practical details that turn an idea into a day of endurance.

From planning safe, well-marked routes and organising parking, toilets, water and paperwork, to briefing teams, solving problems, thanking landowners and making sure the venue is left spotless afterwards โ€” so much happens before the first horse even sets off.

A well-run ride often feels simple from the saddle, but thatโ€™s because a Ride Organiser has done a huge amount of thinking, planning and organising behind the scenes.

So today, we want to say thank you to every EGB Ride Organiser, past and present. Your time, care and commitment help us explore beautiful places, enjoy our horses and keep horse welfare at the heart of every ride. ๐Ÿด๐ŸŒฟ

Huge congratulations to Jenny Miller and Igerbomb 13 Woody, our 2026 Sapphire Para National Champions! ๐Ÿ’š

After winning the Amethyst Para National Championship for the last two years, Jenny and Woody stepped up to the two-day 64km Sapphire Championship at Pembrey โ€” and what a result.

Their story is one of patience, partnership and determination, from Woodyโ€™s retraining as a former harness racing Standardbred to Jenny managing multiple chronic conditions and finding in endurance a sport that gives her freedom, purpose and adventure.

As Jenny says, Woody is โ€œmy legs. He takes me places I canโ€™t go.โ€

๐Ÿ† Pembrey Results & Para National Championships ๐Ÿ†

After being postponed due to flooding earlier in the spring, Pembrey returned at the end of May and proved well worth the wait. Set entirely within Pembrey Forest and along its famous beach, the South & West Wales fixture once again hosted the Endurance GB Para National Championships, alongside a packed programme of graded endurance rides. The event remains one of the most distinctive rides in the calendar, offering miles of sandy tracks, fast-going underfoot and a unique stretch of beach riding.

Saturday saw 14-year-old Hollie Brewell achieve something remarkable, completing her first ever 160km two-day ride with Cotswolds Shaquille. The Derbyshire teenager became one of the youngest riders to successfully complete the distance, capping off a season of careful preparation and progression.

The 96km two-day class was won by Fiona Griffiths and Warrens Hill Caszidy, while Eva Reichardt and JT Roulette headed the 80km two-day standings. In the single-day classes, Nic Smith and Sharloam Tsarina claimed the 80km GER, Lauren Bellis and Cwyrtai Marko won the 64km GER, and Fiona Valentine and Hucklow Reuben topped the 50km GER.

The Para National Championship titles were also decided. Caroline Pitt and GL Gilded Lady secured the Onyx Para National Championship, while Jenny Miller and Igerbomb (I3) Woody were crowned Sapphire Para National Champions. Sunday's championships saw Julie Payne and Bright Diamond win the Amethyst Para National Championship, while Gayle Marr and Arktic Silver Sovereign took the Emerald Para National Championship.

Elsewhere, Timothy Smith and Tannasg Alif won the 64km GER on Sunday, with Dorothy Bodle and Three Lows Leela victorious in the 50km GER. The 40km GER went to Briony Dobbs and Hezetree Tenor, while Georgie Davis and Thames City (Momento) topped the 40km Novice GER. Fiona Valentine and Arranberg Mai won the 32km GER, with Belinda Stewart and Pearl Island Raffles taking the 32km Novice GER. The 22km Novice Foundation GER was won by Sophie McQuilkin and Donys Real Gem.

We'll be introducing each of our 2026 Para National Champions over the coming days, sharing their stories, horses and championship journeys, so keep an eye on our channels. ๐Ÿ‘

Congratulations to all riders, horses, organisers, officials and volunteers who helped make this rescheduled event such a success. ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ…

This Volunteersโ€™ Week, weโ€™re shining a light on some of the volunteer roles that help make Endurance GB events possible.

Today, itโ€™s a big thank you to our Technical Stewards.

Technical Stewards play a key role in helping rides run fairly, safely and smoothly. They support the Ride Organiser, help interpret the rules, oversee results and are there to advise when questions crop up during the day.

Theyโ€™re often one of the calm voices behind the scenes, helping the team keep everything moving โ€” from pre-ride checks and paperwork, to timing queries, vetting processes and results.

Itโ€™s a role that carries real responsibility, but also makes a huge difference to riders, organisers, officials and volunteers. A good Technical Steward helps create a ride that feels organised, welcoming and horse-first from start to finish.

To all our Technical Stewards: thank you. Your knowledge, patience and support help protect the fairness of the sport and keep horse welfare at the heart of every ride. ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’š
