🪵🪓 What a week it’s been! An annual highlight of the Jethart calendar. 🪵🪓
Firstly we must congratulate Callant Turnbull on the exceptional manner in which he conducted his duties. A true Jethart lad who cares immensely aboot his toon and its heritage. ‘You have done well Callant’. Callant Turnbull, I have never seen anyone smile as much as you have over the last few weeks, I hope that you have managed to take everything in and I’m certain these days will be engraved in your mind for the rest of time.
Regarding this years Wudcutters’s society Jethart pride, we had a head count of 108 attendees on Thursday night. An excellent evening even though the chairman was sh*te-ing himself for the event 😂. I had the company of 1986 Penicuik Hunter Derek Wilson who has been described as ‘Thee best speaker the pride has ever had’, along with Ex Callant Grant Davidson who solidified the bond between the Ex Callant’s association and the Wudcutter’s Society, something which we have worked hard to achieve 🤝🔵🔴
Our two Standard Bearers done both themselves and their families proud. Robbie Davidson at just 18 years old conducted a great speech which had both historical significance and comic value to keep his audience entertained, definitely one to watch for the future 🏇
Cameron Fisher spoke with absolute pride, a true Jethart laddie who took his role as the Killiecrankie Standard Bearer in his stride 🔵🔴
Once again our thanks go to Hounoury Member of the society - Gary Cleghorn Live Music for his support and entertainment on the evening. The Pride wouldn’t be the same without him being there. Also to the handful of Gentlemen who also stood up and sang to the crowd.
Last thanks for this post goes to Greig at Hiccup for the bar services, the boys were definitely kept well watered!
I have personally been in involved with this committee since carrying the Killiecrankie Standard in 2018 and have seen a positive evolution since. Faces come and go, commitments change with time and from when I first joined it is now a whole new committee of enthusiastic Jethart lads who are capable of taking oor event to another level. Four years ago we found ourselves in a position where we had no venue, a heavily depleted committee and no clue how we could keep the Wudcutters going. Myself along with a couple others had no choice but to take the bull by the horns and we regenerated ’The Pride’, back to oor roots, in a tent on the Glebe. This year I feel we absolutely nailed it and have hopefully found ourselves a forever home. Now feels like the perfect time for me to walk away from the committee and let the next generation of Wudcutters take the event in whatever way they desire. I can leave knowing that I have left the society in the strongest position it has ever been in, financially, respectfully and of course, with more followers than ever. I thank all of my committee for their dedication to making the Wudcutters Society what it is today.
We always say it but I’m certain with the committee we have next year will be bigger (if we can find a bigger tent!) and better than ever before. If you are keen to join the committee please get in touch, we are always looking for help to keep our event fresh and running smoothly.
Thanks all for your support of our Society.
