‼️CASTING CALL‼️ for the part of Sally in Pack of Lies by Michael Whitemore, directed by Rachel Vernelle

PERFORMANCE DATES: 21 st – 30 th January 2027 in The Wharfeside Theatre

REHEARSALS: will start around the middle of November (tbc) and will take place in the run up to Christmas, however Sally will only be required to attend the Act 2 rehearsals and should be able to leave after her scene for most of them.

Sally appears in one scene in Act 2 and has a couple of pages of dialogue with one other character.
Sally is female and described as about 30; but really any playing age from late twenties onwards would work equally well.
She is conducting surveillance for the secret service, keeping a watchful eye from the Jacksons' suburban home on the couple across the road, who are suspected of being Russian spies.
Sally keeps a professional distance but isn't afraid to voice her opinion about the host family when given the chance.

This would suit anyone who perhaps hasn't ventured on stage before but would like to give it a go. Maybe you fancy being part of a great team without the acting stakes being too high?
You might even be up for helping backstage and making an appearance on stage in the same show!

A BIT MORE ABOUT THE PLAY: – Spy drama based on a true story
Period: Set in 1960, suburban London
A harsh winter grips the country, and a Cold War threatens the uneasy stability of post-war Europe. The Jackson family are best friends with their ‘Canadian’ neighbours, the Krogers; studious Peter and ebullient Helen, confidante to Barbara and surrogate aunt to teenage Julie. But the Jackson’s world is turned upside down by the entry into their home of the mysterious Mr Stewart. Secrecy and surveillance will leave them asking who and what they can trust, even within their own family. The Krogers are not who they seem, and the truth will tear down accepted certainties
and rip apart relationships.

The production will tell a tense TRUE story, routed in its time and place, while focusing on the relationships at the centre of it. Every character has their own loyalties and beliefs tested, and strong performances from the whole cast will convey the dilemmas and moral turmoil they all face.

The play makes us ask - what happens when our world view is tested, when we are made to question the forces we are told will protect us, and trust in authority is fatally undermined? Is an act of betrayal one-sided? Where does deception end and betrayal start? And how do we reconcile love for friends and family in the face of
dishonesty and treachery?
