Hi folks
one of our larger studio spaces is available at Vortex Gallery atm, it's £150pcm, bills are included. A smaller studio, £130 ppm, including bills and Wi-Fi will be available for the start of February. It’s a light bright square room, along the main corridor, with radiator and shelving. Access is 24 hours a day for those creative souls who like to work the early hours. There is a shared kitchen and separate toilets.

If you’re interested in either studio please DM me, John Robertson-Dwyer, and I'll get right back to you with more details and arrange a visit.

Thank you.

Hi Folks!
Here's a heads up that Calderdale Calligraphers monthly workshops are now back in person! We meet the first Saturday of the month and each month we have different workshops. Next one is Sat Nov 6th, full details below!

Our next workshop is ‘Exploring Brush Lettering’ with Peter Smith.
Saturday November 6th (10- 4pm)

We also run a beginners course so anyone interested please get in touch!

Coffee, tea and biscuits are supplied free of charge 👍

….
Materials list for Peter’s workshop:

Normal calligraphy items along with smooth paper or hot pressed.
Gouache and or water colour paints. Inks can be used but it can be difficult to swap between colours.
A one stroke 1/2 " or 3/8" chisel-edged brush.
Pointed or round brushes of various sizes.
Brushes should be reasonably stiff and have a good 'snap'. Best brushes for lettering are synthetic or blended, stay away from soft artist brushes and bristle brushes as they don't allow enough control.
Pentel colour and other marker brushes and anything else you would like to try.

See you Saturday 6th November!

Hi folks, just passing on this link on behalf of Ryoko's gallery, Dai Hall. They are doing a crowd fund for a Grand Piano! It's recently become available and has a bit of a cool history attached to it. It has been housed in sheffield for the last 37 years and has been played by some of the worlds leading pianists. Hopefully Ryoko can get it for the gallery and bring some of that imbued magic to Huddersfield.

Ryoko Akama has been with us at the studios since early 2019. Here's an insight into her art:

"Korean-Japanese working with installation, performance and composition, residing in Huddersfield.

My works sculpt daily tools and scrap wastes with invisible energy such as magnetism / gravity into kinetic contraptions creating ephemeral situations that magnify silence, time and space.

I have been in the part of vortex studio since 2019 and here is where my collection of junks are composed into another life form!"
