Just one day to go until our live gig ALTANATA LIVE AT HUDDERSFIELD HMV tomorrow at 2pm in the Kingsgate Centre. Here’s an album that has influenced the songwriting of our lead singer and guitarist Phil Ned Needham and of course the heart and sound of Altanata Band. Here’s ‘Songs of Faith and Devotion’ by Depeche Mode (Mute Records - 1993)
…….. I love absolutely everything by DM and have seen them live on nearly every tour since their album Black Celebration in 1986. That gig at Sheffield City Hall not only confirmed how innovative and great Martin Gores songs were, but what an amazing electronic live act they were with ground breaking live production and visuals. Several fantastic albums later ‘Songs of Faith and Devotion’ landed taking the band off in yet another direction with an epic dirtier grungy edge that infused more traditional live drums and guitar with their signature electronic sound. Once again the live show that accompanied took things to a whole new level with amazing multi visuals and projections by one of my favourite photographers and filmmakers Anton Corbijn. This massive widescreen production set the bar even higher for some of my other influences like U2 and established Dave graham as one of the best lead singers and frontmen in the world. If Dave told you to stand, you stood, If Dave told you to sing, you sang, If Dave told you to …… you get the idea! That album and tour has inspired me ever since combining mind blowing electronics with darker alternative rock. Every track is brilliant but if I had to pick one ‘Walking In My Shoes’ totally moves me every time, wherever I am, whoever I’m with and whatever mood I’m in! ……
