Holbeach and the surrounding district of South Holland has a long history of producing food. We are surrounded by the best farming land in the country, most of it grade 1 silt, which allows a massive variety of foods to be grown here, from potatoes, wheat (for bread and cereals), sugar beet, peas, cauliflowers, cabbages, leeks, carrots, parsnips and a range of lettuces to lesser known vegetables s
uch as celeriac, chicory and Jerulsalem Artichokes. Livestock that can be seen in the area includes Lincoln Red Cattle, Belted Galloways, Sheep, goats, pigs, poultry and a number of bee keepers. We have major food based employers in the Holbeach area all sup-plying major supermarkets, including Bakkavor Pizzas and Fresh Cook who make ready meals, alongside QV Foods supplying potatoes, DGM Growers supplying unusual vegetables & Emmetts who supply vegetables and salads all of whom are driven by what we eat. On top of this we have a massive transport industry that distributes all this food through supermarkets both in this Country and throughout Europe. Holbeach Food Festival aims to give you a taste of all the above & concentrates on our local grown food and drink. I would like to finish by thanking Janice Smith, who came up with the idea for a food festival in Holbeach, Tom Emery, headteacher at William Stukeley C of E Primary School and George Munn, Care-taker, for their enthusiasm to host this event in the first 3 years. Thank you also to the Rotary Club of Holbeach for providing much needed stewards.
