Belchamps JOTA JOTI

Back in 2010 friend had an idea to run a JOTA 2 groups 12th Southend and 5th Prittlewell, held this at St Stephens church hall in Southend on Sea, the priest in charge Colin gave permission for us to use the hall for a Saturday event when he visited he found wires antennas and was very supportive of the event.

I did not have a Radio Licence but my friend did and invited another licenced friend to help, we did not have one the year after but want to do this again signed up with C.A.R.S for the Foundation Radio Course and with there help passed the exam. Found out that I would need a full licence to run a JOTA so moved to Intermediate with C.A.R.S, this was followed by a home study for the full licence as you get club support but too big to run as a course. Took the exam with cars with one other from the original class, a tough exam but got through.

2003 Run my first JOTA JOTI for Southend Estuary District with the support of T.A.RG. radio club the event went extremely well with 40 or so Cubs and Scouts turning up it was a low turn fo the size of the District but were worth doing, 2012 then 2013 the event was run, turn out was ok but was looking to grow this event.

2015 The year we made contact! it was time to get larger we moved the event to Belchamps Scout Centre where amongst other scouting rolls I was now a trustee, T.A.R.G came onboard again and were now had 80 take part, better numbers but was still to grow. 80+ numbers still around the same but still a good event. 2016 T.A.R.G unavailable, Essex Ham came to the rescue, their approach was different and was more engaging with the young people that took part, numbers were better too with 140 young people taking part.
