The Heyford Park Show Village

The Heyford Park Show Village Heyford Park Show Village comes alive this summer with new public furniture and events including a Street Feast, Dog Show, Star Gazing and Open Air Cinema.

A free summer programme to celebrate the past, present and future of Heyford Park. Over the past 8 months, current residents of Heyford Park have met with Dorchester Living and designers, The Decorators, to discuss the future programme of the Heyford Park Village Centre. Incorporating the comments received, an exciting scheme has been designed, with the first phase of the Village Centre currently

awaiting planning approval. The Heyford Park Show Village is a proposal for a temporary Village Centre, creating opportunity for the Heyford Park Community and new residents to connect in their shared public spaces and collectively define their vision for Heyford Park. In anticipation of the future Heyford Park Village Centre, we are manufacturing 3 sets of street furniture to represent the future spaces of the Village Centre. To give residents a taste of what life at Heyford Park will feel like we will test the furniture and programme with a series of events and activities at different locations around the village. The sun looks to be with us on Saturday so gather your friends and family and join us on the airfield for an atmospheric evening of stargazing and a special screening.

Just a quick reminder of what the evening will hold for you all:

6.30-7.30: Arrive anytime between 6.30 and 7.30 to grab a seat, and some delicious sweet treats and light bites from Baton - The Tasting Station

7.30: Enjoy a stargazing talk from Chipping Norton Amateur Astronomy

8.00: Sit back, get comfy and watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens

10.15: Accompanied stargazing with Chipping Norton Amateur Astronomy. CNAA will be setting up telescopes for you all to get a closer look at the stars and moon

Getting to the event:
The airfield is located directly off Camp Road - the main road through Heyford Park. Access will be via security gate 7, at the western end of Camp Road and the event itself will be held on the western end of the runway, overlooking the Cherwell Valley. Although this is relatively near to the security gate we would advise that even those who live at Heyford Park drive, there is plenty of parking in close proximity to the event site. The airfield is vast and there is little lighting, which is great for stargazing but not so preferable for navigating your way out by foot.

A Special Opening!

The LOOK TO THE SKIES event on Saturday 17th September will be held at Heyford Park's very own Airfield.
This is a great opportunity for everyone to enjoy and celebrate a space normally closed off to the wider public.

The RAF Upper Heyford was a military airfield used in both World Wars and Post-War to 1993. It retains a number of buildings and structures demonstrating changing military aviation technology and strategy over the 20th century, particularly of the Cold War period.

Construction on the airfield began in 1916 and it opened in 1917 (or early 1918) and was operated by Canadian squadrons with the intended use as a training depot.

Come along and unlock one of Heyford Park's not-always-so-visible avenues of history first-hand.
