Herne Bay Festival Trustees Announce 2026 Event Will Be Their Last
The Trustees of the Herne Bay Festival have announced with deep sadness that the 2026 festival will be the final event organized under the current leadership.
The decision comes after careful deliberation, driven primarily by two major challenges: a critical shortage of volunteers needed to staff essential operational roles, and a decline in required support from local businesses.
While the Trustees express immense gratitude to the companies, organizations, and volunteers who continue to offer their support, the current levels of funding and hands-on manpower are no longer sufficient to sustain an event of this scale.
Unlike traditional event management teams, the Festival Trustees do not organize individual activities directly. Instead, they secure vital funding—through corporate sponsorships, community grants, advertising sales, and crowdfunding initiatives like GoFundMe—and distribute those funds as grants to independent event organizers throughout Herne Bay.
A Call for New Leadership
This announcement is not necessarily a final goodbye to the Festival if the community steps forward. The Trustees are issuing an urgent appeal to local residents and community groups:
There would need to be individuals interested in taking on leadership, administrative, or operational roles to keep the festival alive.
Should a new team step forward to take over the management and fundraising duties, the existing Trustees have pledged to provide full assistance and guidance to ensure a seamless transition.
