Great to have our good friend John King back this year

John King - Rebellion Literary Festival 2026 - Confirmed
One of our favourite authors returns to the Literary Stage and as ever, John has been busy with his latest book, a novella by the name ‘Peekaboo Bush’, having been recently published. This follows the animal rights theme featured in ‘Slaughterhouse’ prayer, although this time focusing on the shady business surrounding vivisection labs. Hopefully coinciding with the festival, he will have a new book available, ‘Machine Elves Descending’, the latest tome in the PM Press series curating short stories, essays + an interview with a specific author, that has previously featured Terry Bisson and Michael Moorcock. This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the ‘Football Factory’ and to cap it all we have a special guest conducting the interview, Irvine Welsh.

Performing a set of Magazine classics during this year’s festival, we are delighted to welcome Dave Formula and Noko to the Literary Stage. Noko has played in numerous bands since the early 80’s, collaborating with Magazine singer Howard Devoto, before joining the reformed line-up of Magazine in 2008.

Mick Rossi (Part II) - Rebellion Literary Festival 2026 - Confirmed
Last year we heard about the formative years of Slaughter and the Dogs, the Lesser Free Trade Hall gig and Mick’s friendship with Mick Ronson, but there’s much more to his story. Now a successful film maker & director living in West Hollywood, Mick has worked with several familiar industry faces, not least in his 2006 film ‘Played’, which he co-wrote, featuring himself, Val Kilmer, Gabriel Byrne, Vinnie Jones and Patsy Kensit, alongside a certain Steve Jones. Between times he resurrected Slaughter and the Dogs, along with more recently releasing a solo album and premiering his latest musical foray, Gun Street, whose debut album was launched to much critical acclaim. Mick has plenty of new material on the horizon, both musical and on celluloid, which we eagerly await.

Irvine Welsh - Rebellion Literary Festival 2026 - Confirmed
We are pleased to welcome back Irvine Welsh, who has long been a supporter and friend of the festival, as part of our 30th Anniversary celebrations. Last year he had the 3rd Trainspotting book published ‘Men in Love’, which many will be hoping makes it onto film. Meanwhile, the Trainspotting musical will be going into production on the West End stage during July. A new book is also on the horizon for publication during August, ‘Can Nothing Save Us?’ a thriller that takes place in Las Vegas set around a divided family who are ‘forced to confront the past and reckon with a dangerous future’. Sounds intriguing!

About time we got Arturo on the Literary Stage!

Arturo of the Lurkers/999 - Rebellion Literary Festival 2026 - confirmed.

You couldn’t get a more fitting character to grace the Literary Stage during Punks 50th Anniversary than Arturo Bassick, aka Arthur Billingsley, who’s been around since the early days. Many of you will have seen his appearance in the classic German film ‘Punk in London’, being interviewed at his parent’s council house, where he might have had a shandy or two. Currently he’s best known as the long-standing bassist with 999, although he originally cut his teeth with the Lurkers, appearing on their earliest releases, before forming Pinpoint who released the classic ‘In Richmond’, later returning to the fold of a reformed Lurkers. Beyond punk Arturo has displayed a talent for crossing over genres with the Blubbery Hellbellies and his solo Punktry and Western shows.

Faebhean Kwest - Rebellion Literary Festival 2026 -Confirmed

Having auditioned as 2nd guitarist for the S*x Pistols, Faebhean joined Swank, associated with X-Ray Spex manager Falcon Stuart and whose ranks included future actor Gary Olsen on vocals. Having left Swank he answered an advert in Melody Maker and joined glam-punk band The R***d, releasing a couple of classic 7” singles back in ’77, although given the name they were largely shunned by the music industry. Following a comment by John Peel, the band changed their name to the Cuddly Toys and took on a more glam image and direction, recording an unreleased Bowie/Bolan composition, ‘Madman’.

Following the demise of the Cuddly Toys, Faebhean played and auditioned for a variety of bands, and even turned his hand to acting, making a few television appearances during the 90’s. Most recently, he has uncovered some tapes of recordings he made as part of project he was working on back in the late 70s with Kenneth Anger and is now bringing these to a new audience with the help of Rachel Darq. They will be appearing on the Almost Acoustic stage, playing songs from his 70’s/80’s repertoire alongside the material from his Kenneth Anger project.

Scratchy’s big moment, however, came when he was the tour DJ with The Clash, from 1978-80, during their London Calling period. He has continued to DJ through to the current day, both at home and abroad, contributing to numerous projects, not least compiling the highly praised ‘Scratchy Sounds: Ska, Dub, Roots and Reggae Nuggets’ collection on Trojan Records.

He will also be playing a DJ set in The Old Vic, what he describes as ‘bringing together an irresistible blend of global rock’n’roll, reggae and Roma, a true mestizo mix of the greatest music on the planet, from and for all times’.
