Congratulations! Australian Defence Force King’s Cup Team Manager, Brigadier Alison Creagh CSC AM (Ret’d) has been honoured in the Australian Queen’s Birthday Honours list with appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to veterans and their families, and to rowing.
The Order of Australia recognises Australians who have demonstrated outstanding service or exceptional achievement. An AM is awarded to individuals for service in a particular locality, or field of activity, or to a particular group.
The photo shows Alison marshalling at the Finals Day parade of The King’s Cup. The King’s Cup was handed over at Leander Club by the Club’s oldest veteran to Guardsmen of the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards. The regiment had raced in 1919 and they escorted the Cup into the Steward’s Enclosure through an honour guard of the crews competing in 2019. Alison helped ensure that the event was seamless as the Cup was handed over to the next generation flanked by the traditional escorts of Henley Prizes, the Doggett's Coat and Badge winners
Alison retired in March 2015 after a 30-year career, spending much of her career as an officer in the Royal Australian Corps of Signals. She served on operations in Cambodia, East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan
As an Army Reservist, Alison managed the Australian Defence Force King’s Cup crew and was a key contributor to everything that made The King’s Cup so special. Alison remains a champion of defence/military rowing.
Australian Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), who has been an outstanding supporter of both military rowing and The King’s Cup, said
“This list recognises a group of outstanding Australians who have made a contribution to their community, to Australia globally or domestically. Their efforts have been noted by their peers, they’ve been nominated and assessed independently as worthy of recognition.”
Well done Alison Creagh!
