Hertford Astronomy Group Welcome to Hertford Astronomy Group! 🔭
Join us monthly at the University of Hertfordshire or on Zoom.

For full details of our programme of speakers, events, and membership, please visit our website www.hertsastro.org.uk We hold monthly meetings with guest speakers from all over the world with a wealth of experience. You can find us at the University of Hertfordshire, College Lane, Hatfield on event nights, or you can join us from anywhere via Zoom. Membership is just £10 per annum and gives you access to our main monthly meeting, our astrophotography group which also meets at the University, and our observing group, who meet out in the dark skies of Bramfield.

🪐Full membership has many perks🪐

Since joining us in February, Russell has become a familiar face at our monthly meetings, HAGAS astrophotography meetings and HAGOBS observing sessions. He’s also our club Librarian! 📚

It was only fair he got first dibs on the latest addition to our loan equipment - the Seestar S30. 🔭

Smart telescopes are a fantastic way to explore and capture the night sky with a simple setup. They are also great for beginners!

One of Russell’s first quick captures was M27, the Dumbbell Nebula - over 1,360 light-years away! ✨

Join us on Wednesday 9th September at 8pm, as we kick off our 2026/2027 season with HAG President, Roger O’Brien, and a brilliant talk on ‘Interstellar Comets’.

Ever wondered what an astronomy club actually gets up to? Whether you’re completely new to astronomy, already own a telescope, love astrophotography, or simply enjoy looking up at the night sky, come and meet us at our Club Promotion Day!

📅 Saturday 5th September
⏰ 9:00am – 4:00pm
📍 Howard Centre, Welwyn Garden City, AL8 6HA

Come and chat to our committee members, see some of the equipment we use, and find out what being part of Hertford Astronomy Group is all about.

🌟 Full membership includes:
• Our main meeting on the second Wednesday of every month (Sept-June) at the University of Hertfordshire, featuring a guest speaker, a tour of the night sky and a showcase of images from our astrophotographers.

• Access to our dedicated Astrophotography Group, meeting on the last Wednesday of each month, with guest speakers and advice on improving your astrophotography.

• Access to our Observing Group, where members meet at a dark-sky location with their telescopes to explore the night sky together.

• And, of course, the chance to meet other people who share your enthusiasm for astronomy!

You don’t need any experience or your own telescope to join - just an interest in the night sky. ✨

Yesterday the team spent the day at Wheathampstead Village Day, showcasing the club, and showing an array of solar scopes, including visual solar, spectroscopic views, astro photography & smart telescopes. 🔭

We had a great time discussing the club and enjoying the day as a whole. Thank you to everyone who stopped to say hello!

Our next public event will be our Partial Solar Eclipse watch in August, followed by a club promotion day in September at the Howard Centre in Welwyn Garden City. More details to follow. ☀️

🌕Something special is happening in the night sky…
Tomorrow night we will be treated to a rare Blue Moon - the second full moon in a single month. It doesn’t actually glow blue, but it does make the moment feel a little more magical.
Take a moment to step outside, look up, and soak it in. Nights like this don’t come around often.
