I paused for thought yesterday at a remark made by a man as he left the crematorium, he thanked me for the service and then said "I am not sad **** lived a long and good life, but I am so glad I paid my respects". Paying respects is still so important to some, I wonder is paying respects more important than saying goodbye?

This service is open to the public and is an opportunity to honour and celebrate the lives of mothers and mother figures who are no longer with us, but who remain in our hearts and memories.

The service is open to all, regardless of faith or belief, and there is no charge to attend. Visitors can come and go as they please.

Someone asked me today if people still "dress up" for a funeral. I don't think they do, nor do the majority of mourners wear black, is it a good thing or a bad thing? Does it really matter? Not as much as being present and paying respects I feel.
