Annually the 2nd weekend of October sees the town fill with Shanty Crews from all over the world, plus Pirates, Napoleonic Soldiers and hordes of other disreputable characters. Welcome to Historic Harwich, home to the Mayflower and the world renowned Harwich International Shanty Festival!! The festival is usually held on the 2nd weekend of October (but a week earlier in 2018!) sees the town fill with Shanty Crews from all over the world, plus Pirates, Napoleonic Soldiers and hordes of other disreputable characters. If you think you'd fit in please come and join us. There's enforced time in the town's many pubs and the chance to be keel hauled from a Thames Barge, or rounded up in the Redoubt, a Napoleonic Fort.
