Harrogate International Festivals is celebrating its 60th anniversary in style by bringing some of the biggest names and brightest emerging stars in classical music to Harrogate this summer.

Jam-packed with unmissable acts and bringing the brightest talents to the heart of Yorkshire, HACS Harrogate Music Festival returns from 6 June – 5 July. From intimate solo recitals to genre-defying performances and not one, but two orchestras, the programme features renowned pianist Alexandra Dariescu, the celebrated Abel Selaocoe & Bantu Ensemble, and star of modern opera Davóne Tines. Both Aurora Orchestra and the BBC Philharmonic will be joining us at the Royal Hall for two very special performances.

The Spiegeltent returns this year for 10 days of jam-packed entertainment, with the infamous Jimmy's Night bringing the party to Crescent Gardens and celebrated saxophonist Jess Gillam and her trio sure to wow audiences.

Title: Sound Health - the music of Harrogate’s Spa, Stray and Streets

In the 100 years leading up to the 2nd World War Harrogate was known for its cures, green spaces and elegant architecture. But what was music’s role in the town and how might it have promoted health and wellbeing, not only for its many rich visitors but also for the working people who served them?

BBC Radio 3's Sarah Devonald alongside social historian Dr Paul Jennings, concerts director Andrew Hitchen , leads us through some of the musical highlights of Harrogate’s heyday as a spa town, illustrated with plenty of music, stories and images of times gone by.

Just a reminder that this Saturday 14th March will be our open day – an opportunity to step into some of our rehearsals, see our musicians in action, and even take part in our massed ensemble at the end of the morning. Adults and friends are all invited to join in, please don’t forget to bring your instrument, if you play any!

We will also have some of our instrumental tutors demonstrating the instruments they teach. Interested in taking woodwind lessons? Do you have a saxophone or clarinet getting dust in the attic? Sarah will be showing clarinets, saxophones, flutes, and recorders. Is your child interested in playing guitar? Speak with Warren! Curious about trumpets and trombones? See Dan about getting individual lessons.

We will finish the day with our bring-a-parent massed ensemble. Remember to bring your instruments and be ready to join in! Don’t be afraid! This will be sight-reading for most of us, so just come and have fun…

"It was quite the weekend for our Strings at Harrogate Music Centre! Last Saturday they took part in the Harrogate Competitive Festival, performing in front of a packed audience and receiving a commendation.

On Sunday some of our string players took part in a rehearsal with the Otley Chamber Orchestra, playing some Haydn and Elgar. Thank you to the Orchestra for inviting them along!

Congratulations to everyone who made music last weekend! We'll see you all next Saturday for our Open Morning."

Cuore Chamber Orchestra are offering a complimentary invitation for school children & students to attend an open rehearsal with Conductor William Dutton & the Orchestra in The West Park Centre, Harrogate featuring works by Purcell, Parry, Dvorak & the national premiere of Elisabetta Brusa’s Simply Largo & including the “The Harrogate Story” exhibition on Thursday 5th March at 10.15am.

Harrogate International Festivals (HIF) Sunday Series Concerts are running from January to April 2026. HIF has introduced £5 tickets for under 35s to encourage the younger generation to attend and be inspired by these fantastic musicians.

HIF’s next concert is on the 8 February - with rising star Matilda Lloyd (trumpet) and the brilliant Goldmund Quartet. We also have concerts on 1 March (clarinet and piano), 29 March (piano), 19 April (cello and piano). For more details see What's On | Harrogate International Festivals /
