Now for the latest local news

A pothole on the Hamilton Road near Quarter has reportedly been given “heritage status” rather than repaired, as part of what the council is calling a lasting legacy of the G7 Summit.

Instead of filling the hole with tarmac, a small commemorative plaque has been installed next to the crater.
The council confirmed the cost of designing, producing and installing the plaque was higher than the estimated cost of repairing the pothole itself, but said the decision was about “preserving history, not value for money.”
Officials said fixing the road would “remove an important reminder” of the global event, while the plaque ensures the pothole can be “appreciated by residents and visitors alike.”
Local residents described the move as “exactly what you’d expect,” adding that the pothole has already claimed several tyres, one alloy wheel, and “any remaining faith.”
The council confirmed there are currently no plans to repair the pothole, but it will now be inspected annually.

The week after 10th February we have Sean Gray and then on 17th February we have Steve Dan Mills. More about them next week.

Watch out for scammers!!!

An up-country couple were left horrified after paying a random man who said he was from Quarter £40 for what he claimed was a “therapeutic natural mud bath” on the road between Quarter and Larkhall.
The man had put up a cardboard sign outside a farmer’s field reading:
“NATURAL MUD BATH THERAPY - £20.”
After taking their money, he told the couple to climb the gate and “find a warm patch.”
They lay down in a large pile of what they believed was healing Scottish mud, rubbing it on their arms and faces.
Moments later, a tractor entered the field and the man who took the cash suddenly “went to take a phone call” and disappeared.
The farmer then stopped his tractor and shouted:
“GET OUT OF MY DUNG PILE.”
The couple were later hosed down and described the smell as “something you don’t get off in one shower.”
Police say the rogue man who said he was from Quarter has not been seen since but a local resident thought a man of his description had been seen going into the Boolin club on Tuesday nights
