I have just returned from an experience I will never forget.
I had the privilege of attending a HEAD UP Retreat, run by the Head UP Charity, supporting veterans and serving members of the British Armed Forces with their mental and physical wellbeing.
I went into the retreat at short notice and not quite knowing what to expect but I came away having gained far more than I could ever have anticipated.
The retreat created something genuinely special. Between a diverse group of males and females of all ages and backgrounds, we experienced a safe, private, intimate and completely authentic environment, underpinned by professional boundaries and incredibly capable, compassionate facilitators.
It was a space where people could be themselves, speak openly, reflect, listen, eat well, sleep well and perhaps most importantly, feel understood without judgement.
The experience has given me a great deal to think about and take forward, both personally and in how I approach my own wellbeing whilst serving others. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone involved in creating and maintaining that environment - every single one of them.
A huge thank you to the Head UP team, facilitators and everyone who shared the experience. What Head Up provides is incredibly valuable, unique and the impact of creating a space like this is not to be underestimated.
Having experienced the retreat first-hand, I’d now like to explore how I can give something back to them in the future whether that’s through helping with fundraising and supporting events, volunteering, or simply helping raise awareness of the fantastic work Head Up does.
For me, the best way to understand the value of something is to experience it and I can say with my hand on my heart, I certainly experienced it - Thank You.
