I’ve arrived at Burton Waters for the Lincoln Marabank and have checked the course. Despite the weeks of rain, it’s in excellent condition and road shoes will be absolutely fine for this weekend’s running.

I’ll be down on the canal side around 7.30–8.00am tomorrow to hand out numbers, with a short briefing just before we set off.

If anyone wants to start early and still be counted for the marathon (rather than the 7‑hour event), that’s fine as long as you can begin before 8.30am.

I’m planning to be in the pub from about 6.30 this evening for a couple of hours if anyone wants to pick up their number early. Feel free to message me on Facebook or send a WhatsApp via the link in the race instructions.

A couple of years ago I took the time to get properly first‑aid qualified so that small, volunteer‑run events like this weekend’s Marabank can stay safe without piling on extra costs. We might be a fun, low‑budget event, but your safety is never something we cut corners on.

For November’s Maravan, the brilliant West Grimsby 3rd & 8th Scout Group loaned us their AED in exchange for a bit of bucket‑shaking — and thanks to you, we raised a tidy sum for them.

We’re doing the same again this weekend. The Scouts have kindly loaned us their AED once more, and we’ll have their donation bucket nearby. If you’ve got any spare change, it’ll go straight back into supporting a group that does so much for young people in our area.

Thanks for helping us keep the event safe and supporting a great local cause.

More than just a finish line.

For the Maravan and Marabank races, I’ve always believed that the medals should represent more than just a personal achievement—they should reflect our values.

I’m proud to partner with Zero Waste Medals, who just shared that our latest order helped fund the restoration of native Polylepis forests in the high Andes through Ecologi.

To date, the partnership between Zerowaste, Ecologi, and event organisers has helped to plant 1,701 trees. As an organiser, seeing the data on our environmental impact is just as rewarding as seeing the runners cross the line. 🏃‍♂️🌳

Obviously I've been concentrating my efforts fully on the Maravan over the past couple of weeks, came to the office today and thought I'd have a look at Marabank numbers for 2026.

Wow! 18 entries already.

I'll see if I can get a lovely medal designed for this year now...
