Turbury Equisport

Turbury Equisport Welcome to Turbury Equestrian Centre, this business has now closed. Watch this space!

We continue to keep in touch with informative health care posts, UK riding holidays and items to raise a smile! We are relocating to County Durham, following the farm sale, to offer horse retirement livery and bring your own horse on holiday to enjoy the North Pennine Moors and other local facilities.

My response to the 'Livery Yards - good, bad etc.....Brilliantly said. Opening an Event centre arm to our livery yard saved it from closing years ago. We ran grass routes dressage, show jumping and cross country competitions. Had points series in all disciplines with other local businesses donating prizes and sponsorship in return for having adverts in schedules and banners in the arena.Liveries volunteered as stewards and everyone had a great time. We also ran training clinics, demos and talks with local experts which were very well attended. Staff got paid properly, livery rates were capped. It was a win win. Give it some serious thought. Good luck everyone. 🍀

The livery yard debate is getting heated… and honestly, both sides are right.

Everywhere I look right now I’m seeing yard owners saying:

“Livery prices have to go up.”
“We can’t survive on these margins.”
“It’s just not financially viable.”

And they’re not wrong.

Running a livery yard today is brutally hard.
Hay prices.
Bedding.
Insurance.
Electricity.
Maintenance.
Staff costs.
Business rates.

The costs have exploded.

But here’s the uncomfortable truth on the other side…

Horse owners are already at their limit.

It’s not that they don’t understand the pressures yards are under.

Most do.

They know their livery probably isn’t making the yard owner rich.

But the reality is simple:

they physically cannot stretch their finances any further.

Mortgages have gone up.
Fuel has gone up.
Food has gone up.
Everything has gone up.

And horses are a luxury, not a necessity.

So when prices keep rising, people don’t just magically find more money.

They start making hard choices.

They downgrade.
They move yards.
They share horses.
They leave the sport.

And that’s where the industry is stuck right now.

Yard owners feel trapped because their costs keep rising.

Horse owners feel trapped because their budgets can’t stretch anymore.

And the conversation turns into a battle between two groups who actually need each other to survive.

But maybe the real question isn’t:

“How much can we raise livery prices?”

Maybe the question is:

“How do equestrian venues generate more income without adding more horses or more workload?”

Because most yards already have thousands of pounds worth of infrastructure sitting there…

arenas
gallops
cross-country schooling
training facilities

…that are empty most of the time.

The future of equestrian venues probably isn’t more horses.

It’s better utilisation of the facilities we already have.

Curious to hear honest thoughts from both sides…

Yard owners - what’s the biggest pressure you’re facing right now?

Horse owners - where is your financial breaking point?

Let’s talk about it properly.
