NC500 Challenge 2023

Update: Drive home day!! Vans all loaded by 08:45 and now on the road heading back to Grantham (ETA approx 17:30) after a very tasty full Scottish breakfast 🍳.
Bradley O'Hara is feeling ok, a little tired and struggling with reduced circulation and numbness in his hands but overall in a good place. Matt Thompson is happy for a day or two off the bike! Shoulder and Collar heavily bruised and right side ribs extremely painful but legs and lower back feel much better. Chris Webster Mark Rowe and Mike Brummitt are all feeling good after a hearty meal last night and a good night sleep and ready for the last trek back to G-Town.

NC500 Day 7 ✅ Brora to Inverness. End of the epic NC500 challenge.
Well what can I say and where do I start!!!!
I have eventually ticked off another of my bucket list challenges.
This one was full of ups and downs. Pain (beyond belief!! Never felt pain like that before (near death experience down hill accident at 25mph), I was never going to give up though even after an accident that could have and should have put me in hospital), sweat (Bealach Na Ba! OMG that was some mountain! With at least another 20 to follow!) and support, I cannot thank the team enough for all the support. Mike Brummitt you have been there by our side from the start and always there when we needed you (Superstar!!) Mark Rowe & chris Webster you have left no stone unturned, 100% perfect support team performance. A dream partnership that was so professional you could do this for a living 👍👍. Anna-Louise Thompson for being there throughout, for supporting me through my tough nights of excruciating pain and making sure I got back on that bike the next day and of course for making the huge effort to be there on our finish line today. Bradley O'Hara wow buddy!! I take my hat off! This was always going to be tough but you were there every step of the way and absolutely nailed it buddy!! Jeez we had wind 💨 plenty (at one point I was going down a hill at a 10% gradient and it felt like I was peddling up hil!!), rain, more than we get in Lincolnshire in a year and sleet (OMG it’s bloody June!!). Finally to everyone who has supported us throughout. For your constant support and praise which has kept us going to the finish line I cannot start to thank you enough! 🙏❤️🙏🚴‍♂️🙏❤️
I’m sure I will reflect more over the coming days but for now I am so grateful for the chance of this amazing experience and for all of you that have been able to put up with my endless moaning and whinging to get me in the position to undertake this massive challenge. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Thank you. ❤️

NC500…. Finally Completed it mate. 🤣🤣🤣 if you haven’t had chance to donate please do so. It’s been a really mentally and physically insane challenge…’relentless’. Rain/ high winds/ hills/ really bad road surface - too the point my hands don’t work!! I hurt from head to toe! Our team has given us the support to go again every day. Whoop whoop. Day6 complete. 85 miles / 4287 elevation. Total to date - 469 miles and an elevation of 34,067ft …. Final day tomorrow. It’s been very emotional. We have had the most extreme of weather - the support team have been amazing. Tomorrow consists of 74 miles and an elevation of 2233ft. It’s been the single most difficult thing I’ve done. Day5 completed. To date we have completed 384 miles and 29780ft climbed. Hands don’t work… couch is like something out of a horror movie… legs feel they could snap at any moment… Exhausted / wet / high winds start today and unfortunately a wet finish. But only 2 days to go!!! We’ve almost done it!! Massive massive THANKYOU to Mike Brummitt… our support rider. Been bloody amazing!! Wouldn’t have got as far as we have without him!! Massive massive THANKYOU to Mark Rowe and Chris Webster who have been our rock/ base camp legends. Taken care of us every step of the way!!! Please please keep the donations coming in. Day 5 and they are sharp...........ish!

Day4 complete. 54miles 5095ft elevation. Mad day. My bike had issues early doors. Then unfortunately Matt Thompson had a nasty crash. Downhill, overshot the turning… cracked helmet, cuts bruises / very sore …. But managed after a rest to complete the day. It’s sooooo bloody tough!! Tougher than anything I’ve ever done before. What a day!! Bike malfunctions and a 25mph accident leaving Matt a little worse for wear however we battled through and arrived in one piece (just!!) at Sango Sands camp site in Durness for our 4th night stop.
Todays route took us from Clacktoll Beach to Durness though some of the most amazing scenery in the UK. Total distance 54 miles with just over 5000ft climb.
Fingers crossed day 5 will be problem free and we can get back to trouble free cycling and taking in the views.
