The Irish Navvies Who Built the Mickey Dam.

Join us for a talk by the historian Stephen Coyle, which will explore the experiences of the workers who built a section of Glasgow’s water supply at Craigmaddie Reservoir, located near Milngavie in East Dunbartonshire in the late 19th century. The talk will highlight the lives of the mainly Irish labourers, many of whom faced harsh challenges posed by nature and some even lost their lives, all in exchange for a daily wage and to provide a clean water supply for the people of Glasgow.
