3k on the Green is a flat, accurately measured road race taking place in Glasgow Green usually on the last Friday of each month.

A Double Gold result for Kilmarnock Harriers at the May 2026 3k on the Green. Debutant Jonathon Downey led from the beginning and whilst some wondered if we would be able to maintain his early lead, he soon showed how good he is by increasing the pace to finish in an incredible time of 8:37, some 46 seconds ahead of his closest opponent, Paul O’Hare (9:23), and 53 seconds ahead of third placed John Sharp of Inverclyde AC(9:30).

In the women’s event, Kilmarnock Harrier, Lynsey O’Connor - who is becoming a regular at the race - earned Gold with a time of 11:08, with Falkirk’s running legend, Fiona Matheson some fourteen seconds behind in Second place, and Jessica Cerrone, Outliner, in third place with a time of 12:01.

With 28 juniors from Kilmarnock there was a great atmosphere and we raised £208, which will go to Athletics Trust Scotland who are holding their annual Scottish Running Week from 1-7th June.

‘When is the next 3k on the Green’, you ask? As usual it’s on the last Friday of the month. May’s event will be held on Friday 29th, and as usual it’s register from around 12:10 for a 12:30 Start, and the cost is only £2 which goes to charity.

Please note that to ensure the event takes place we always need a few volunteers to help marshal the route. Please let me know asap if you can help us put on the ‘Best Wee Race in Scotland’.

There was sunshine on the Green for April's 3k Race. With some 59 runners and walkers completing the course, whilst others just enjoyed the weather and ice cream. Despite the gorgeous weather, James Bowness stormed to victory, crossing the line in 8:54. The GB Athlete who did his PhD in Sports Science researching into ageing athletes couldn't have chosen a better race to run, with over 15% of today's participants being over 65. Bellahouston Harrier, Alasdair Campbell, earned Silver with 9:06, and Kilbarchan's Stuart Kerr, making his debut, surprised himself by finishing in 9:36, nine seconds faster than he had predicted.

In the Women's Race. Kilmarnock Harrier Lynsey O'Connor earned Gold, crossing the line in 11:23. Mary Senior of Garscube Harriers made a successful return to racing after six months of injury, placing second in 11:54. Holly Bentley (unattached) earned Bronze with a time of 12:50.

Congratulations to all of them and everyone else who participated in the Best Wee Race in Scotland, in the best weather this year, and many thanks to the volunteers who made the event possible.

Friday, April 24, 2026, is the 114th day of the year, it’s also National Bucket List Day, so if you’re ever thought about running the Best Wee Race in Scotland, or helping to marshal the event, there really couldn’t be a better time.

As usual, we meet on the last Friday of the month, from around 12:10 for a 12:30 start under the McLennan Arch on the Saltmarket side of Glasgow Green. If you’re running just turn up with your £2 donation, and if you’re free to help out, please let us know asap.

Some 65 runners and walkers endured the miserable weather to take part in March’s 3k on the Green.

Kilmarnock’s Jordan Phillips crossed the weather beaten line in 9:16, ten seconds ahead of his closest rival, Harvey Mitchel-Divers of Giffnock North, with West End Road Runner, Stephen Brown earning bronze with a time of 9:57.

In the Women’s event, Edinburgh AC’s Hazel MacCormick placed first with a time of 11:06, with Falkirk’s Fiona Matheson earning silver with 11:21, three seconds ahead of Kilmarnock Harrier, Lynsey O'Connor.

Lexie Spiers of the University of Strathclyde took the honours in the Junior category, crossing the line in 13:54, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Cambuslang Harrier, Peter Ogden won the 75+ race, with his time of 15:22.
However, the best age related performance was won by multi-record holding, Fiona Matheson of Falkirk, with a wava of 92.19%

Well done to everyone who braved the conditions, helping to raise funds for charity.
