A heart-felt THANK YOU to everyone who came and made the space with us at this years' Counterflows Festival 💞

This was our first year ever where we had the funding and resources to deliver the festival as full-timers. It took us 14 years to get here, and we're proud to have the best team, staff and volunteers, the most respectful, engaged and enthusiastic audience, and a selection of artists we think are making some of the most vital work in the world right now. We are feeling emotional, humbled, and completely energised.

While we reflect upon the festival, here are some snaps courtesy of Brian Hartley.

In the coming weeks we'll be sharing more photos and memories, as well as feedback forms for audience members.

In the meantime do share with us your memories. We look forward to seeing you next year!

Today we planted a beyond repair piano for Annea Lockwood in Gathering Ground’s Community Garden space! 🪏🎹🌱

The piano joins the small selection of planted pianos Annea has around the world since 1969 making up her ‘Piano Garden’ series, where she plants a piano, builds a garden around it and lets it stay there forever.

- a close collaborator of Annea - will be performing some intimate shows on it at Counterflows, but as they instantly sold out we’ll be opening the Piano Garden to the public 2-4pm on Sunday 12th of April. Pop on by and have a plonk! And if you’re feeling fruity bring an instrument and have a jam with it.

Thanks to for their help and support with this project, and for the 4 strong geezers who helped move the piano!

‘Doo, who, rrrr or brrr. A masquerade symphony’ is a composition for multiple kazoos, which can be performed by people who have no knowledge of musical notation. This year, alongside Counterflows Festival in April, we'll be presenting some one-off events in Glasgow. We'll be keeping them intimate and strange: true to the Counterflows spirit!

The first of these is a pre-festival warm up on the 4th of March, welcoming solo sets from two legends who have graced our stages in the past; Beijing's Yan Jun and Glasgow's very own Sue Tompkins.

This will be an early event (doors at 6.30pm!) at one of Glasgow key community spaces, Listen Gallery. Listen Gallery is a dry space - there will be free tea, as well as some food on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Tickets & further details at: https://counterflows.com/event/yan-jun-sue-tompkins/

Counterflows 2026 volunteer recruitment is now live!

We’re looking for a team of friendly volunteers to assist with ushering, box office, and general safeguarding of the festival. Shifts are short and in return for your time you will receive a full festival pass.

If you think you’d like to get involved, drop us an email at [email protected]
