It would be nice to see a test centre in town, even if just a pop up one.

Young people around the Gainsborough area are having to spend a fortune on 2 hour driving lessons, just to get them into Lincoln or Scunthorpe where they have to take their driving tests since the closure of the test centre in Gainsborough. For many the cost prevents them learning to drive. There are many issues with driving tests nationally, which are being addressed hopefully, but in this day and age, why is a physical building needed to be run as a test centre? Why can't the test centres in Lincoln and Scunthorpe run a satellite hub system where examiners base themselves at somewhere like the council building?
I submitted a motion to West Lindsey full council asking for the council to open discussions with the government to see what can be done. In rural areas where public transport is so poor it essential that people can learn to drive to access job opportunities.

I previously suggested that one of the bus shelters removed from the Central Bus Station could be relocated to Newlands, to stop elderly residents having to cross the top of Whites Wood Lane to use the brick built one. I have now enquired about the grant scheme with the Lincs CC to see if a new one could be placed there.

Fly tippers could face up to 20 hours of community service removing rubbish they have illegally dumped.

Great that all Gainsborough Wards were represented by at least one Councillor from the Gainsborough Town Council for this visit rather than be being the only Gainsborough Councillor to attend the visit from West Lindsey District Council

πŸ“£ On Wednesday, members of Gainsborough Town Council visited the academy and PHASE (the mainstream SEND hub) to discuss the progress the school has made over the past few years.

During the visit, Mrs Skelton shared the many improvements the academy has achieved, including the school’s highest ever results in summer 2025. The meeting also provided an opportunity to talk about how the council can continue to support the academy and its students in the future.

I was the only local Councillor from Gainsborough to attend the event, as my son goes to the school. I have asked that an invite is extended to the Gainsborough Town Council , so that more local representation can see what is going on with the school. I would like to see the young members of our town have some input into the Neighbourhood Plan which is at present undergoing a review.

One of the most improved schools in the country, The Gainsborough Academy, welcomed councillors for a tour
